The methods and apparatus described herein optimally represent full 3D audio mixes (e.g., azimuth, elevation, and depth) as “sound scenes” in which the decoding process facilitates head tracking. Sound scene rendering can be performed for the listener's orientation (e.g., yaw, pitch, roll) and 3D position (e.g., x, y, z), and can be modified for a change in the listener's orientation or 3D position. As described below, the ability to render an audio object in both the near-field and far-field enables the ability to fully render depth of not just objects, but any spatial audio mix decoded with active steering/panning, such as Ambisonics, matrix encoding, etc., thereby enabling full translational head tracking (e.g., user movement) beyond simple rotation in the horizontal plane, or 6-degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) tracking and rendering.

According to one aspect of the present invention there is included a method for conditioning an audio signal having the steps of: receiving at least one audio signal, each audio signal having at least one channel, each channel being segmented into a plurality of frames over a series of time; calculating at least one measure of dynamic excursion of the audio signal for a plurality of successive segments of time; filtering the audio signal into a plurality of subbands, each frame being represented by at least one subband; deriving a dynamic gain factor from the successive segments of time; analyzing at least one subband of the frame to determine if a transient exists in the frame; and applying the dynamic gain factor to each frame having a transient.

A two-channel phase-amplitude stereo encoding and decoding scheme enabling flexible and spatially accurate interactive 3-D audio reproduction via standard audio-only two-channel transmission. The encoding scheme allows associating a 2-D or 3-D positional localization to each of a plurality of sound sources by use of frequency independent inter-channel phase and amplitude differences. The decoder is based on frequency-domain spatial analysis of 2-D or 3-D directional cues in a two-channel stereo signal and re-synthesis of these cues using any preferred spatialization technique, thereby allowing faithful reproduction of positional audio cues and reverberation or ambient cues over arbitrary multi-channel loudspeaker reproduction formats or over headphones, while preserving source separation despite the intermediate encoding over only two audio channels.

The method may comprise rendering a first audio stream via at least a first audio signal in a first audio playback channel and a second audio signal in a second audio playback channel and monitoring occurrence of the event with an associated second audio stream. Upon occurrence of the event, the first audio signal may be panned to the second audio playback channel, the first audio signal being mixed with the second audio signal in the second audio playback channel. The second audio stream is then rendered via the first audio playback channel.

A check valve (30) prevents flow from a fuel system back to the fuel source when the engine is off, so to retain sufficient pressure in the delivery system that the engine will readily start when cranked. A pressure relief valve (50) drains fuel from the delivery system back to the source of fuel in response to a pressure build up in the fuel delivery system above a predetermined pressure level so to prevent an overpressure condition which would otherwise damage the fuel delivery system.
