Abstract:
A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a vertical alignment type liquid crystal cell including a first substrate formed with a first electrode, a second substrate formed with a second electrode, and a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules given a pretilt angle. A pair of polarizer plates sandwiches the cell, and a driver device applies a voltage of a multiplex driving waveform across the first and second electrodes. In a display in-plane parallel to a surface of the first or second substrate, at least one of the first and second electrodes has a zigzag border alternately coupling a first border perpendicular to display in-plane components of directors of liquid crystal molecules in a middle area along a thickness direction of the liquid crystal layer in the absence of applied voltage and a second border extending along a direction crossing the first border.
Abstract:
The disclosed subject matter can include an LCD apparatus having a high visual quality. The LCD apparatus can include a first substrate including a plurality of first electrodes connecting to first wiring lines that are located on a first surface thereof, and a second substrate including a plurality of second electrodes connecting to second wiring lines that are located on a second surface thereof. A liquid crystal layer can be disposed between the first and second surfaces, wherein at least one of the first wiring lines partially intersects with at least one of the second wiring lines. Impedance variations among the first and second electrodes can be reduced by adjusting the area of an intersecting region of the wiring lines, and thereby display variations among display patterns between the first and second electrodes can be reduced. Thus, the disclosed subject matter can provide an LCD apparatus having a high visual quality.

Abstract:
A liquid crystal display unit has: a pair of opposing substrates; an electrode pattern formed on each of the substrates on an opposing surface side; a vertical alignment film formed on each of the substrates and covering the electrode pattern; a liquid crystal layer squeezed between the substrates; and a pair of polarizer plates formed on the substrates on an opposite side to the side of said liquid crystal layer, wherein an edge of the electrode pattern includes a zigzag pattern parallel to one of axis directions of the polarizer plates and a direction perpendicular the axis direction. Optical through can be reduced along an edge portion of a pixel of a vertical alignment LCD.
Abstract:
A light emitting diode device can include a pair of opposed electrodes and a thin film multilayer structure interposed between the pair of electrodes. The device can include one or more light emitting layers each having an emission interface. In the device, there can be adjacent layers having an interfacial plane therebetween. The interfacial plane being disposed in a position where an optical path length from the emission interface to the interfacial plane is substantially equal to, or less than, the coherent length of light emitted from the emission interface. Furthermore, the difference in refractive index between the adjacent layers is substantially equal to, or less than, 0.6. This can eliminate an interference effect within the thin film multilayer structure, thereby enhancing light emitting efficiency and achieving intended light color.

Abstract:
An emulsion composition of a modified polypropylene. It can have exceedingly improved emulsion stability because the modified polypropylene used has extremely high solubility in solvents and is easily emulsifiable. The modified-polypropylene emulsion composition comprises water and a modified polypropylene dispersed and emulsified therein, and is characterized in that the modified polypropylene has a racemic diad content [r] of 0.12 to 0.88 and has hydrophilic functional groups in a number of 0.5 or larger on the average per molecular chain of the polypropylene.
