摘要： A wireless communication system (20) includes a base station (22) that is capable of communicating with a plurality of mobile stations (24). The base station includes a modular device (50) that allows flexibility in locating the various operative electronic components (52, 54, 56, 58) of the base station. Disclosed examples include a radio frequency head module (55) that packages components traditionally associated and located with a radio in a manner that allows them to be located with the Tx and Rx portions of the radio or at a remote location. One example includes a radio frequency coupling for communications between the radio (54) and the radio frequency head module (55). Other examples include intermediate frequency couplings (70, 74).

摘要： A transceiver system for RF communications in a wireless network includes a transceiver having first and second receivers and a transmitter. The first receiver and transmitter are connected to first antenna section. The second receiver is switchable between connection to a second antenna section and connection to the first antenna section. In a dual diversity mode, the second receiver is connected to the second antenna section, and the two receivers are tuned to the same RF channel set. Thus, multi-path faded signals in the RF channel set are received at the two antenna sections. In a cross-connected mode, two of the transceivers are used together, with the second receiver in each being connected to the first antenna section. Each transceiver supports one antenna, and the receivers in each transceiver (as well as the transmitters) are respectively tuned to different RF channel sets. Thus, system capacity is doubled in conjunction with diversity reception.

摘要： A cellular base station transmitter/receiver system is provided which combines adaptive array processing, for the uplink RF signals, and fixed beam switching, for the downlink RF signals. An example of the configuration employs at least four antenna ports, with all four ports being used to provide uplink RF signals to a receiver processor, two being used to supply narrow beam uplink signals and two being used to supply wide beam uplink signals. Two of the four ports are used to provide beam switched narrow beam downlink RF signals.
