摘要： A vacuum immobilizer support is disclosed which includes an elongated, flexible casing having neck, thoracic and pelvic regions. An evacuation valve is provided to allow the casing to be converted from a flexible state to an evacuated state. Stiffener sections are provided in the casing to prevent transverse bending of the casing in the neck, thoracic and pelvic regions. The stiffener sections allow transverse bending along an axis between the thoracic and pelvic regions. An intermediate stiffener section is provided to prevent longitudinal shortening of the casing between upper and lower stiffener sections. Discrete elements are disposed within the casing and allow the casing to conform to a patient when in its flexible state and to be rigidly fixed when in its evacuated state.

摘要： A spine immobilizer particularly adapted for rendering an accident victim's head and upper body immobile. The spine immobilizer in a preferred form is made of a sheet of corrugated cardboard including a multilayer spine panel to resist longitudinal bending, laterally extending head panels bendable into position adjacent the sides of the person's head, laterally extending body panels bendable into conformity with the person's upper body, and straps and fastening assemblies for securing the body panels in position. The immobilizer includes box sections providing increased resistance to longitudinal bending, one formed by laterally extending stiffener panels having free ends arrangable in overlying relation, and others formed by the strap arrangement. Features include laterally adjustable carrying handles, and slot and strap configurations which reduce tearing of the cardboard.

摘要： A portable soldier fighting cover having a pair of adjacent relatively rigid frames attached to an underlying waterproof flexible anchorage sheet, and defining a structure resistant to bending for spanning a military trench or foxhole, and further having a load bearing sheet attached to and overlying each frame for transmitting loads to the frame resulting from the weight of protective material such as sandbags or timber placed on the cover, and also from ballistic fragments and blast overpressure from near misses, and further having a pair of elongated straps attached to each frame and extending beyond the ends of the frames for securement to the ground for transmitting loads from the frame to the ground and for supporting the cover in the event of collapse of the foxhole side walls. Curtain sheets can be attached to the straps for service as revetments.

摘要： A ventilatory support and resuscitation device for providing short-term ventilatory support, as well as constant flow, pressure cycled ventilatory support for breathing and non-breathing patients is disclosed. The device includes a chamber and at least one port in flow communication with the chamber. The apparatus also includes a flexible diaphragm member positioned within the chamber and configured to seal the port from flow communication with the chamber while seated adjacent to the port, and to flex in response to pressure applied thereto so as to allow flow communication between the port and the chamber while the diaphragm is flexing. A flow restrictor in flow communication with the chamber may also be included. The device may be coupled to a patient adapter, whereby a manometer, entrainment unit, and safety pop-off and entrainment valve may be coupled thereto.

摘要： An emergency extrication collar including a flexible band for encircling the wearer's neck, and a chin support member which may be readily adjusted in elevation with respect to the band so as to permit adjustment to fit patients having varying neck sizes. The chin support member is connected to the band by means of a post which is slidably connected to a vertical strap on the band, and such that the elevation of the chin support member above the post, and thus the neck size of the collar, may be adjusted by simply sliding the post and chin support upwardly to any selected size between the size extremes. A pawl and ratchet interconnection between the post and strap precludes movement in the opposite direction. The collar is secured in its adjusted size by means of a locking arm which is pivotally mounted on the post, and movement of the locking arm to its release position also releases the pawl and ratchet interconnection.
