Abstract:
The use of lycopene has been demonstrated to be effective in decreasing risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, skin cancer and prostate cancer in mammals. Lycopene is difficult to solubilize in its native trans-lycopene form. Cis-lycopene, formed by applying thermal energy generated by excitation of polar molecules through microwave-assisted processing, appears in several isomeric forms. The cis isomers are effective in improving lycopene micellularization, bioaccessibility and mammalian absorption. The cis isomers are effective in improving vascular circulation of lycopene by way transport vesicle low density lipo-protein (LDL). Lycopene-based ingredients, end products, functional foods, medical foods and nutraceuticals, containing isomerized cis-lycopene can be used in place of ingredients with more naturally abundant trans-lycopene as phytonutrient, micronutrient and antioxidant delivery vehicles through dietary consumption to improve the outcomes of a variety of conditions, including hypertension, cardiovascular disease, skin cancer, prostate cancer, macular degeneration and related proinflammatory conditions.
Abstract:
Some embodiments of the invention include a novel system and process for rating maintenance risk on healthcare and general industry equipment. In some embodiments, the system includes a set of tools that provide accurate initial maintenance budgets and performance monitoring of actual service costs related to industry equipment. In some embodiments, the system uses the set of tools to automatically benchmark and rate maintenance risk on the devices and equipment in relation to associated service agreements. In some embodiments, the system uses the set of tools to analyze the devices and equipment related to the service agreements and monitor events associated with devices and equipment placed in service. In some embodiments, the set of tools of the system includes a maintenance risk calculation tool that calculates risk and automates performance of benchmarking and maintenance risk rating on the devices and equipment.
Abstract:
A shoelace tying device which acts as a learning aide and assistant for individuals who may lack the capacity either mentally and/or physically to fully grasp and complete all of the steps required to tie one's shoe laces. The device consists of a solid thin piece of material which fastens to a shoe's shoelace with a clip on its backside. The device also consists of four holes on the top which pass from front to back and two hooks on the bottom end of the device. The two inner holes are used to cinch the starting knot of a double bow knot tight and hold it in place. The two outer holes and hooks are used to assist in forming and holding the loops in place while the user forms the knot using their method of choice. In addition, the front contains an image which is intended to excite and inspire the user to learn one or more of the many loop type methods used to tie one's shoelaces.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to malate salts of (3S,5S)-7-[3-amino-5-methyl-piperidinyl]-1-cyclopropyl-1,4-dihydro-8-methoxy-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid, and its polymorphs. The present invention is also directed to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the described salts and polymorphs.
Abstract:
Compounds of the formula provide pharmacological agents which are potent agonists of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors (PPARs). Accordingly, the compounds of the instant invention are useful for the treatment of conditions mediated by the PPAR receptor activity in mammals. Such conditions include dyslipidemia, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesteremia, atherosclerosis, hypertriglyceridemia, heart failure, myocardial infarction, vascular diseases, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, obesity, inflammation, arthritis, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, skin disorders, respiratory diseases, ophthalmic disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The compounds of the present invention are particularly useful in mammals as hypoglycemic agents for the treatment and prevention of conditions in which impaired glucose tolerance, hyperglycemia and insulin resistance are implicated, such as type-1 and type-2 diabetes, and Syndrome X. Preferred are the compounds of the invention which are dual agonists of PPARα and PPARγ receptors.
Abstract:
Transfer component monitoring methods, image forming devices, data signals, and articles of manufacture are described. According to one aspect, a transfer component monitoring method includes counting a plurality of imaging operations performed by an image forming device to form a plurality of hard images and adjusting a result of the counting to determine wear of a transfer component of the image forming device, wherein the transfer component is configured to assist with a transfer of a developing material to form the hard images.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for booting a computer. The method comprises the steps of emulating a floppy disk drive communicatively coupled to a computer in a token via a USB-compatible interface, and booting the computer using the token. The apparatus comprises means for performing these functions, including a token with a processor having one or more memories storing processor instructions and data for performing the method steps. The memory may also securely store sensitive data.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses for communicating data within measurement traffic are described. Embodiments that send, receive and both send and receive are described. Some embodiments are described that compute statistics based at least partly on measurement traffic. Some embodiments are described that communicate computed statistics within measurement traffic. Some embodiments are described that rank and select paths based at least in part on computed statistics.
Abstract:
A protective cover to cover an opening of an electrical box having a threaded bore on inwardly projecting protrusions. In one approach the protective cover may have a back panel and four side panels together defining an interior cavity; a flange connected to a free edge of the side panels; wherein the flange has a pair of keyhole shaped bores defining a pair of openings along a center longitudinal axis of the flange; and wherein the keyhole openings are configured to allow a head of a screw to extend from the threaded bore and through a rounded portion of the keyhole opening and to allow a threaded shaft of the screw to slide along the length of an elongated narrow portion of the keyhole opening, the narrow portion being narrower than the diameter of the screw head.
