Abstract: Antifriction materials comprising 10-50 percent of a polybenzimidazol and 90-50 percent of a filler such as molybdenum disulfide are made by mixing the above materials in powdered form and pressing the mixture at 350-550* C. and a pressure of 8001,000 kg./cm2.

Abstract: An antifriction polymer material which is a product of hardening of a composition consisting of a filler in amounts of 10-95 wt.% and a binder in amounts of 5-90 wt.%, a mixture of polyphenylenes being used as a binder containing ketal and/or acetyl groups of the general formula ##STR1## R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 being identical or different, the fraction with n =2-15 amounting to 4-20% of the binder weight.The proposed antifriction polymer material possesses high heat and thermal resistance of about 350.degree.C and 450.degree.C, respectively, which ensures a stable friction coefficient and a high wear resistance of the material at temperatures of up to 320.degree. C.

Abstract: Polymers of the polyphenylene type comforming to the general formulas ##STR1## WHERE X is any number; ##STR2## WHERE N = 1-4 AND R is a simple bond; (CH.sub.2).sub.m with m = 1-20; CH=CH; C.tbd.C; CR.sub.1 R.sub.2 ; ##STR3## WITH P = 1-10, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 standing for H, lower alkyls or phenyl; O; S; CO; ##STR4## WHERE R.sub.4 is H, Cl, Br, phenyl, ##STR5## with n, R, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 as defined above. A method for producing said polymers of the polyphenylene type, which comprises polycyclocondensaton of diacetylbenzenes, diacetylnaphthalenes, diacetyl compounds of the general formula ##STR6## with n, R and R.sub.1 as defined above, triacetylbenzenes, 1,3,5-tri(acetylphenyl)benzenes or tri- or tetraacetyloligophenyls, or comprises copolycyclocondensation of the above-said acetyl-substituted aromatic compounds with methylarylketones of the general formula ##STR7## WHERE R.sub.4 is H, Cl, Br, phenyl, ##STR8## with n, R, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 as defined above, or with monoacetylnaphthalenes in the presence of acid catalysts in a solution, melt or solid phase.The herein-proposed polymers of polyphenylene type feature high thermostability and heat-resistance, are chemically stable and have a number of other valuable properties.
