In the image forming method, a color toner image and a transparent toner image are formed using a first developing device containing a first developer including color toner and carrier, and a second developing device containing a second developer including transparent toner and carrier. At least the second developing device includes a developer bearing member bearing the second developer for developing an electrostatic image; a developer supplying passage supplying the developer to the developer bearing member while feeding the developer in a first direction; and a developer feeding passage separated from the developer supplying passage at a central portion thereof and feeding the developer used for development in a direction parallel to the first direction. The transparent toner includes a resin and a lubricant and has viscoelastic property such that loss tangent has a peak with height of not less than 3 at a temperature of from 80° C. to 160° C.

An image forming method including forming an electrostatic latent image on an image bearing member; developing the electrostatic latent image using a color toner and a transparent toner to form a color toner image and a transparent toner image thereon; transferring the color toner image and the transparent toner image to a recording material; and fixing the color toner image and the transparent toner image on the recording material. The color toner includes a polyester resin and a colorant, and the loss tangent of the color toner has a maximum peak at a temperature of from 80° C. to 160° C., and is not greater than 3 at the maximum peak. The transparent toner includes a crystalline polyester resin, and the loss tangent of the transparent toner has a maximum peak at a temperature of from 80° C. to 160° C., and is not less than 3 at the maximum peak.

An electrophotographic image forming apparatus capable of reliably forming an image with density gradation, one which does not have a low-quality appearance. The estimated average halftone granularity of the toner image after developing but before electrostatic transfer was set at 0.25 or less. The average halftone granularity was found by measuring the granularity of a toner image at locations of different average brightness by means of newly proposed formula, and averaging the measured values for which the average brightness is 40 to 80. The estimated average halftone granularity was obtained by estimating the average halftone granularity of the toner image on a photoreceptor by means of a newly proposed method.

In order to provide a band-like apparatus cleaning device for removing foreign materials and cleaning a band-like apparatus before the foreign materials become huge on the surface of the band-like apparatus without scattering the foreign materials around by improving a cleaning structure such as the shape of an aperture for shower and the like for the band-like apparatus, there is provided a cleaning device of a band-like apparatus, comprising a hollow rotating roll being supported so as to be capable of turning along the traveling direction of the band-like apparatus and having a plurality of apertures for shower formed in it, and cleaning fluid jetting nozzles arranged at the inner side of the plurality of apertures for shower within an embracing angle of the band-like apparatus wound partially round the rotating roll, the cleaning device cleaning the band-like apparatus by jetting a cleaning fluid to the band-like apparatus from the cleaning fluid jetting nozzles, wherein the cleaning device comprises a plurality of blade plates being adjacent in parallel with the roll axis of the rotating roll in the traveling direction of the band-like apparatus and provides the plurality of blade plates and the rotating roll so as to be capable of freely reciprocating in the roll axis direction.
