The method for measuring the elastic characteristics of a medium comprises the steps of applying vibrations to the medium; acquiring a plurality of ultrasound image frames of the medium; estimating a variation in brightness of the speckle pattern over the plurality of ultrasound image frames; and measuring the elastic characteristics of the medium based on the estimated brightness variation. The apparatus for measuring the elastic characteristics of a medium comprises a vibrator for applying vibrations to the medium; transducers for acquiring a plurality of ultrasound image frames of the medium; a device for estimating a variation in brightness of a speckle pattern over the plurality of ultrasound image frames; and a device for measuring the elastic characteristics of the medium based on the estimated brightness vibration.

More specifically, the decorrelation between the receive signals obtained without and with applying stress to a target object is reduced to decrease an error, which occurs during the calculation of a delay. The image processing unit further sets radial scan lines in radial directions with respect to the center on each of the ultrasound image and reconstructs the ultrasound images such that the radial scan lines are in parallel with each other to form reconstruction images. An elastic image forming unit forms an elastic image based on the reconstruction images.

The ultrasound system comprises a transmission/reception unit operable to transmit/receive ultrasound signals at a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) to form an n number of Doppler signals. The signal processing unit computes a first mean frequency based on an nth Doppler signal and an (n−1)th Doppler signal and a second mean frequency based on an nth Doppler signal and an (n−k)th Doppler signal, wherein k is a positive integer equal to or greater than 2. The signal processing unit estimates a Doppler frequency and compensate for aliasing of the Doppler signal based on the first and second mean frequencies to produce Doppler signal with the aliasing compensated. A focusing method plays a big role of determining a resolution of an ultrasonic image. Focusing is performed by controlling an arrival difference of a signal up to a focal point by an electronics delay circuit. Here, the focusing method for focusing an ultrasonic signal having emitted to a focal point of an object via an array transducer including a plurality of elements, obtains an optimal focusing time delay curve according to the ultrasonic signal travelling velocity to thereby obtain an optimal ultrasonic image. Using only data obtained without any modification of the structure of an existing ultrasonic imaging system, a focusing time delay curve is estimated. Thus, a resolution can be enhanced with only a simple calculation.
