Abstract:
Method and apparatus for attaching an IMS enabled wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) to a long term evolution (LTE) wireless network. With one attach request, the WTRU registers and authenticates itself to the network, obtains an IP address allocation, and SIP registration.
Abstract:
An Application Server Autonomous Access (ASAA) system for providing autonomous access to a wireless infrastructure by devices employing different types of access technology. The system includes a server, having an associated data storage device, for storing at least one policy, and a plurality of subnetworks, coupled to server, for providing access to the server. The plurality of subnetworks employ at least two different types of access technology. A plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) are wirelessly coupled to at least one of the subnetworks. The server monitors the wireless coupling and, depending upon the at least one policy, switches the WTRUs between different ones of the subnetworks.
Abstract:
A fastener comprising: a) a body having: i) a first cylindrical portion with a first diameter, ii) a second cylindrical portion with a second diameter, iii) a shoulder part of the first cylindrical portion, iv) an exterior threaded portion, and v) a cylindrical hole extending along an axis of the body; b) a mandrel having: i) a shank, and ii) a mandrel head at an end of the shank; and c) a head having an opening defined by an interior threaded portion; wherein the mandrel shank at least partially occupies the cylindrical hole of the body; wherein the mandrel head is located outside of the body and opposite of the exterior threaded portion of the body; and wherein the exterior threaded portion of the body and the interior threaded portion of the head are engaged to removably secure the body to the head.
Abstract:
A privacy service is provided for use in protection of user data transferred in a network, including a converged network. The privacy service extracts and measures service elements of a message containing user data. The service elements include an identity element, a trust element, a rights element and a security element. The privacy service performs security by comparing service elements with a user defined privacy policy. The privacy policy may also be based on particular factors relating to the application, context, and time of the message. In another embodiment, the privacy service provides controls that indicate when user data is misappropriated as a result of an infringement of the user defined privacy policy. Further the privacy service provides a means to audit and trace deviations from the privacy policy for the purpose of repudiation, or future defense of security threats.
Abstract:
A multiple radio access technology (RAT) apparatus with mobility middleware provides a user with access to various RAT networks, such as a frequency division duplex (FDD) network and a wireless local area network (WLAN). In one embodiment, the apparatus is a dual mode FDD/WLAN converged wireless communication handset which includes a terminal equipment (TE) module having mobility middleware, an applications and protocols processor and a terminal interface (TI). The dual mode FDD/WLAN converged wireless communication handset further includes a user services identity module (USIM), a mobile termination (MT) module and a protocol stack which interface with the mobility middleware via a plurality of links. In another embodiment, the multi-RAT apparatus is terminal equipment which includes a mobility middleware core module, a mobility middleware communication module, a driver and an insertably removable wireless communication device for providing a multiple radio transport medium to applications running in the terminal equipment.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for controlling reception of multimedia broadcast/multicast services (MBMS) at a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) are disclosed. In order to control reception of an unwanted service of the MBMS, the WTRU is enabled or disabled for receiving MBMS in accordance with a user input. The unwanted service may be blocked at an application layer or at a lower layer. Either all services or a selected individual service may be blocked. The selection may be based on a type or priority of the content. The selection may be overridden for providing a certain service. To block the unwanted service, reception of an MBMS announcement message is disabled. Alternatively, an MBMS identity is prevented from being passed to a lower layer or is passed with a flag indicating that the unwanted service of the MBMS should not be processed.
Abstract:
A system for providing multiple quality of service classes to a subscriber using a terminal unit includes a gateway operable to communicate with a network and a base station coupled to the gateway. The base station is operable to communicate with the terminal unit over a wireless interface. The base station is also operable to receive a first packet associated with a first application and a second packet associated with a second application from the gateway. The applications are executed by the terminal unit. The base station is further operable to identify a first quality of service class associated with the first packet and a second quality of service class associated with the second packet using quality of service information. The quality of service information is associated with the first and second applications, and at least a portion of the quality of service information is identified by a network address. In addition, the base station is operable to communicate the first packet to the terminal unit using the first quality of service class and to communicate the second packet to the terminal unit using the second quality of service class.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system includes a base station that receives information regarding neighboring wireless systems and updates and stores this information for use in handover of user equipments (UEs).

Abstract:
A method for performing rate control for VoIP services using messages to enable the RRC to be aware of activity in the SIP/ARM level and to recommend an AMR rate change according to conditions in a wireless communication network. The messages allow VoIP services to dynamically adjust both rate and voice quality based on network conditions. A method for triggering RRC codec rate control using RRM conditions in the network. A method for coordinating AMR autonomous rate control and RRC commanded rate control using a guard mechanism between messages.
