Abstract: A sign casing having a structural frame defining a front plane and a planar opening in that front plane. The structural frame has a cleft extending around the front plane. The cleft has a depth dimension extending in a direction substantially parallel to the front plane, and a latching member mounted therein. The sign casing also includes an edging bordering the planar opening. The edging has a flat strip for covering an edge of the planar opening and a latch blade extending perpendicularly from the flat strip. The latch blade has a longitudinal bulge thereon which is engagedly mountable in the latching member of the cleft such that the edging is mountable to the structural frame by simply pushing the blade into the cleft.

Abstract: A casing for sign comprising a backing sheet and side members having each a lip along an edge of the backing sheet. The sign casing further comprises a crimp or a plurality of crimps in the lip of each side member and into the backing sheet for retaining the backing sheet to the side members. The lip of each side member is adjacent a first side of the backing sheet, and a lateral portion of each side member is adjacent a second side of the backing sheet. The lip and the lateral portion of each side member form a slot enclosing an edge of the backing sheet. Abstract: The new framing system for signs provides a method of stretching the flexible sign material across the opening of a frame. The tensional devices are installed manually from the outside of the sign at regular spacings on the edges of the flexible sign material. The tensional devices are installed by closing the device on, and by the same movement, puncturing retaining holes on the edges of the flexible sign material. The adjustment of the tension of the flexible sign material is done by pushing inwardly on each tensional device to engage it onto a series of serrations inside a slot facing outwardly along the edges of the frame. The outside edges of the frame are held rigid with frame members extending from the bottom of the sign, and thus eliminating the need for support members, between the flexible sign material and the lamps, which normally transmit shadows to the face of the sign. The new framing system can be re-opened for maintenance purposes using a slot type blade screw-driver to pry the tensional devices out of the serrations. The tensional devices and the slot on the periphery of the sign are covered by a cap which locks in place on mating lips, and which can be removed manually by twisting it inwardly along its length.

Abstract: The present invention is a reversible single-piece flex holder for retaining a flexible sign face to a sign frame. The flex holder has a latch block and a latch blade movable toward the latch block about a hinge, for clamping the margin of a sign face. A pair of pivot lips are provided on the outside of the flex holder for engagement into a slot in a sign frame. These pivot lips are symmetrical to each other relative to a clamping axis of the flex holder, such that the flex holder is interchangeably mountable to the margin of a flexible sign face. The flex holder also has a stopper lip extending from the latch block and a stopper bulge on the latch blade. The lip and the bulge interfere with each other when the latch blade is reopened to a certain extent to prevent over-stressing the hinge.

Abstract: The one-piece reversible flex holder is affixed to the edge of a flexible face material by a latch, and retains the flexible face material to a sign frame. The latch is selectively openable to release the flexible face material upon a pre-determined tension being applied to the flexible face material. A hinge on the latch blade has a S-shape and a bendable segment capable of deformation under a determined load. An excessive force on the flexible face material such as a strong gust of wind causes the hinge to collapse on itself, thereby releasing the latch blade from the latch block, and letting the flex face material slip out of the flex holder. Excessive wind forces causes the face of the sign to open, to let wind pass through the sign face to release stresses on the sign structure.
