摘要: Colored bicomponent filaments have a particulate colorant dispersed throughout one of the fiber domains while another of the fiber domains is colorant-free. More specifically, the filaments have at least two distinct components arranged longitudinally coextensive with one another. The arrangement of the components may be a sheath/core structure or a side-by-side structure. One of the components contains a colorant and the other one does not (i.e., is colorant free). The colorant-free component is most preferably formed of a polymeric material which is incompatible with the particulate colorant, whereas the colorant-containing component is most preferably formed of a polymeric material which is compatible with the particulate colorant.

摘要: A system for mixing first and second polymer melt flows and directing a mixed polymer melt flow to one and another downstream locations includes a control valve having an inlet port for receiving the first polymer melt flow, and a pair of outlet ports, and a fluidic valve for forming the mixed flow of the first and second polymer melt flows and directing the mixed flow to one of a plurality of downstream locations. The fluidic valve is provided with a primary supply port for receiving the second polymer melt flow, a pair of secondary supply ports which are fluid-connected with the primary supply port at a mixing intersection, and a plurality of discharge ports extending from the mixing intersection. Each discharge port directs the mixed flow of the first and second polymer melt flows to a respective downstream location. A pair of branch conduits is provided which fluid-connect one of the pair of outlet ports of the control valve to a respective one of the secondary supply ports of the fluidic valve.

摘要: A spin pack for spinning synthetic fibers from two or more liquid polymer streams includes a supply for at least two polymer streams to the spin pack; a spinneret having extrusion orifices; and flow distribution plate sets. The flow distribution plate sets include at least one patterned plate having edges which define a substantially regular two-dimensional geometric shape, a substantially planar upstream surface, a substantially planar downstream surface and at least one flow distribution pattern stenciled therein by cutting through. For each patterned plate, at least one boundary plate stacked sealingly adjacent thereto and having edges which define a substantially regular geometric shape, a substantially planar upstream surface and a substantially planar downstream surface. The boundary plate has cut-through holes connecting the upstream surface with the downstream surface to form at least one flow-through channel to allow fluid flow through the patterned plate but otherwise is substantially solid.

摘要: A method of separating two or more immiscible components from a multicomponent fluid stream thereof involves passing the stream through one or more separation chambers of a plate-type separator. The separator contains at least one separator flow plate, each of which has formed on a common facial surface thereof at least one separation chamber containing at least one inlet means, a channel assembly in fluid communication with the inlet means, and a plurality of outlet means. The channel assembly contains at least one branched-channel structure composed of a main flow channel split at a downstream branch-point end thereof into at least two branching flow channels. The main flow channel is adapted to separate the multicomponent stream passing therethrough into a plurality of substantially discrete density-differing or viscosity-differing fluid phases. Each of the branching flow channels is adapted to receive one of the discrete phases. The discrete phases exit the branching flow channels through the outlet means.

摘要: Novel bicomponent fibers have a polyamide domain and a contaminant-containing polymer domain which is embedded entirely within, and thereby completely surrounded by, the polyamide domain. The preferred bicomponent fibers have a sheath-core structure wherein the polyamide domain constitutes the sheath and the contaminant-containing polymer constitutes the core. Surprisingly, even though the core is formed of a contaminant-containing polymer (which is difficultly spinnable), the bicomponent fibers are readily spinnable and exhibit properties which are comparable in many respects to fibers formed from 100% polyamide. Preferably, the fibers are concentric sheath-core bicomponent fibers having an uncontaminated nylon-6 sheath and a core formed from nylon-6 having a relatively high level of contamination in the form of the cyclic dimer of caprolactam and/or nylon-6 derived from colored regenerated post-consumer nylon carpet fibers.

摘要: A plate-type fluid separator is used to separate a plurality of mutually immiscible components from a mixed fluid stream thereof. The separator contains at least one separator flow plate which has formed on a common facial surface thereof at least one separation chamber. Each separation chamber contains at least one inlet means; a channel assembly in fluid communication with the inlet means and composed of a main flow channel split at a downstream end thereof into a plurality of branching flow channels; and a plurality of outlet means in fluid communication with the branching flow channels. The main flow channel separates the stream passing therethrough into a plurality of substantially discrete fluid phases having different average density or viscosity values. Each branching flow channel receives a discrete phase and passes such phase to the outlet means.
