Abstract: The present invention relates to armature windings for DC electrical machines, and in particular to those that use electronic commutation and have relatively few slots per pole-pair. The armature windings are particularly well suited for use with rotating DC electrical machines that have a large diameter and a large number of poles such as those that might be directly coupled to the turbine blade assembly of a wind turbine. The armature winding is arranged in relation to the magnetic field generated by a field winding or by permanent magnets such that a number of commutation events during the time taken for the relative movement between the armature and the field system of one pole-pair is much larger than the number of coils per pole-pair.

Abstract: A baking oven 10 comprising an oven chamber 11, heating elements 20, 120 for generating heat, a support 14, 114A for supporting one or more baking trays 30 in a baking tray position within the heating chamber 11. The oven has an active region 120 under the baking tray position and an inactive region 130 positioned outwardly of the active region 120, the heating elements 20 being positioned to provide substantially more heat to the active region 120 than to the inactive region 130 for more directly heating an underside of the baking tray position. The oven chamber 11 may also include second support 114B within the oven chamber for supporting one or more baking trays above the baking trays on the first support 14 and second heating elements 127 intermediate the first support and a second support for supplying heat to an underside of the baking trays on the second support 114B; the second support 114B being movable relative to the second heating elements 127 and coaxial with the first support 20, 114A.

Abstract: A baker's oven 10 and a method of operating the baking oven 10. The baking oven 10 including heating means 50 arranged to underlie baking trays 31 to provide a substantial proportion of the heat to the baking trays 31 than to other portions of the oven, a temperature sensor 62 for providing a signal indicative of oven temperature. An interface 60 is adapted to receive information from a baker indicative of a bake program and information corresponding to products being loaded into the oven. The control means 61 is operatively connected to the heating means 50, the temperature sensor 62 and the interface 60 to receive signals corresponding to oven variables comprising the oven temperature and a fixed baking time indicative of the product. The control means 61 is adapted to deactivate the heating means 50 after a first predetermined portion of the fixed baking time has elapsed in response to the oven temperature reaching a trip temperature.

Abstract: An apparatus for measuring a characteristic of a body part, such as an infant's head, includes a flexible substrate, a plurality of sensing elements provided along the substrate, and an electronic system. Each of the sensing elements (i) has a component wherein an electrical characteristic of the component changes predictably in response to the component being bent, and (ii) provides a signal that is indicative of the current value of the electrical characteristic. The electronic system is structured to receive the signal of each sensing element and determine a measure of a degree of curvature of the sensing element based on the received signal. The electronic system is also structured to determine, based one or more of the measures, a representation of a curvature of a segment, such as a loop, defined by a selected one or more of the sensing elements.

Abstract: A permanent magnet arrangement for an electrical machine comprises a support structure for carrying magnetic flux and a pole assembly fixed to the support structure. The pole assembly comprises a magnet pole comprising at least one piece of permanent magnet material, and a magnet carrier on which the magnet pole is mounted and which provides a magnetic flux path between the magnet pole and the support structure. The permanent magnet arrangement further comprises a sleeve containing the magnet pole and at least part of the magnet carrier. The magnet carrier is secured to the support structure to fix the pole assembly to the support structure and the sleeve is clamped to the support structure by the magnet carrier. A method for assembling the permanent magnet arrangement is also described.
