摘要： A centrifugal casting apparatus is provided with means for supporting an article in a predetermined position with respect to a mold pattern in the casting apparatus whereby the article will be imbedded in the centrifugally cast body; counterweights are provided within the casting apparatus for compensating for the buoyancy of an article being imbedded where such article has a specific gravity that is less than the casting material.

摘要： A method and apparatus for the centrifugal casting of articles having non-uniform mass distributions with respect to an axis of rotation; the method comprises the steps of forming a sand mold in a cylindrical centrifuge, providing cavities in the sand mold adjacent the portions of the mold surface corresponding to that portion of the article to be formed which will have a reduced mass content with respect to the portion of the article formed on the opposite side of the axis of rotation of the centrifuge; conduits connect the respective cavities to the interior of the centrifuge so that casting material introduced into the mold may be fed into the respective cavities; the cross-sectional area of the conduits is chosen to meter the feeding of casting material into the cavities so that when the centrifuge is rotated the article being formed will be maintained in rotational equilibrium with respect to its axis of rotation.

摘要： A system for construction of ship sections. Mechanized devices are provided for assembling two-dimensional and three-dimensional sections from individual parts, under control of automatic and easily computerized mechanisms for forming, positioning and welding the sections. Sequences or systems of such devices and control mechanisms, for making flat or three-dimensional sections, are largely disposed in parallel, and the materials are conveyed in uniform directions along the parallel lines. Intermediate storage facilities are provided for compensation of slack in any of the parallel systems. Also provided is an ultimate receiving and finishing section, for work on elements from the preceding sections. Ship plates move along the several lines on trolleys equipped with suitable holders, and are processed by multiplicities of steel plate processing machines, basically known by themselves but specially arranged to suit the new system.

Incident thereto, the apparatus is manipulated so that near the first interruption the weld arc is in trailing position but near the second interruption it is in leading position relative to the welding apparatus.
