Abstract: Nuclear waste, such as, but not limited to, spent nuclear fuel (SNF) assemblies or portions thereof, are chipped and compacted into (waste) pucks that are placed within diecast molds, and then diecast injection molding occurs within the diecast molds and around the pucks that are emplaced within those diecast molds, with injected molten alloy(s), to form solid metal ingots upon sufficient cooling after the diecasting injection that contain within the ingots the emplaced pucks. The molten alloy(s) may contain a copper alloy. The molten alloy(s) may also contain neutron absorbers. The ingots may be placed into waste capsules. The ingots and/or the waste capsules may be landed in deeply located horizontal wellbores. The deeply located horizontal wellbores may be at least partially located within deeply located geologic formations.

Abstract: A method is presented for producing hollow microspheres of metal oxides (HMOMS) and/or hollow metal silicates microspheres (HMSMS) in a transforming solution. The transforming solution contains an atom M, or an M-ion, or a radical containing M. M in the transforming solution has the thermodynamic ability to replace silicon atoms in hollow silica microspheres (HSMS) and/or hollow glass microspheres (HGMS). The maximum temperature for transformation is set by the chemical physical properties of the transforming solution, and the viscosity of the silica in the walls of the HSMS and/or the glass in the walls of the HGMS. Viscosity, of enough magnitude, helps retain the desired shape of the hollow sphere as it is transformed to HMOMS and/or HMSMS. Non-spherical shapes can be produced by increasing the transformation temperature whereby the viscosity of the walls of the HSMS and/or the HGMS is reduced. Transformation can take place at a single temperature or at several temperatures, each temperature for a separate hold time.
Methods are presented for:
1. production of micro composite castings and continuous production of sheets of micro composites, both consisting of hollow spheres in a matrix,
2. harvesting of HMOMS and HMSMS, and
3. specialty castings for anisotropic properties using 3-dimensional printing.-

Abstract: A method for producing a component includes incorporating a molding compound into a tool for producing the component, where the molding compound includes an artificial resin as a matrix and a filler material embedded in the matrix. The method includes compressing the molding compound by the tool and by the compressing forming the molding compound to a green product. The method further includes providing the green product while disposed in the tool with a layer in a sub-region by incorporating a liquid material for producing the layer into the tool and applying the liquid material to the sub-region. The liquid material is a metallic material and the layer is an electromagnetic shielding on the green product.

In an embodiment, engineered surfaces may be provided on the Interface Node to improve the blend between the Interface Node and the cast part during the co-casting process.

Abstract: A method for the production of castings which are permanently provided with readable information. An identification element, which has an information surface, provided with information, and a casting surface which is assigned to the casting and also provided with information, is arranged on a casting mould surface assigned to a mould cavity of a casting mould so that the information surface is covered, while the casting surface is exposed in the mould cavity. A metal melt is poured into the mould, so that, during casting or solidification of the metal melt, a firmly bonded, form-fit or force-fit connection of the identification element to the casting is produced. The information on the casting surface is reproduced in the manner of a stamp on surface of the casting. The casting is then removed from the mould and fettled.
