    摘要： A spring interior has a main face, or an extension of a main face, which is non-planar and has varying contours determined at least in part by at least one stiff yet resilient former of wire, rod, strip or the like secured to the main face. Preferred formers have parallel limbs joined by an integral, transverse base. The limbs may be inserted into parallel helical wires of the spring interior if such are provided. The former may be bent before or after being secured to the spring interior. The spring interior may be heat-treated to relieve stresses after it is in its final shape.

KNOWN FITTINGS AND RETAINING WASHERS ARE EMPLOYED. EACH FITTING HAS A NECK WHICH EXTENDS THROUGH A HOLD IN THE ARTICLE AND A HEAD WHICH LIES ON ONE SIDE OF THE ARTICLE. EACH RETAINING WASHER COMPRISES A PLATE WITH AN APERTURE FOR THE NECK OF THE ASSOCIATED FITTING AND TONGUES WHICH ALLOW THE NECK TO BE PUSHED INTO THE APERTURE BUT STRONGLY RESIST ITS WITHDRAWAL. THE INVENTION PROVIDES BANDS OF FITTINGS AND BANDS OF RETAINING WASHERS, AND APPARATUS WHICH SEVERS A FITTING AND A WASHER FROM THE BANDS, GUIDES THEM TO OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE ARTICLE, PASSES THE NECK OF THE FITTING THROUGH A PREFORMED HOLE IN THE ARTICLE AND INTO THE APERTURE IN THE RETAINING WASHER.

    摘要： A bed comprises in combination a support, a padding unit and a decorative surround. The support comprises a spring interior with insulation on top of it. The padding unit comprises padding and can be releasably secured on top of the support so to leave a peripheral gap beeen the padding unit and the support into which gap the marginal parts of sheets and other bedclothes can be tucked. The decorative surround can be releasably secured around the support and may be permanently attached to the underside of the padding unit at the inner edge of the gap. Alternatively the padding unit may have a skirt of plain material of the same shape as such a decorative surround, there being a separate decorative surround which can be fitted over the skirt.

In order to prevent the helical wires becoming unlinked stops are formed by distorting the helical wires at positions spaced from their ends. Each stop preferably comprises a closed loop, and this preferably embraces a wire of an adjacent spring.
