Abstract: A tamper-proof and child-proof closure for a medicine bottle or the like. The closure consists of an inner cap having threads on its inner surface mating with threads on the bottle neck and an outer overcap enclosing the inner cap and normally rotatable relative thereto. Co-operating clutch means on adjacent surfaces of the inner and outer caps are engageable for unscrewing the inner cap by moving at least part of the overcap axially toward the bottle and then rotating the overcap. The overcap has a removable skirt on its lower edge which initially engages the bottle shoulder near the neck to prevent the overcap from being moved into clutch engaging position until after the skirt has been removed.

Abstract: A safety closure for a container having a threaded neck. The closure consists of a relatively stiff, inner threaded cap and a relatively resilient outer driver. The inner cap has a circular top and cylindrical skirt. There are a plurality of ribs on the outer side of the cap skirt at the periphery of the top. The driver has a cylindrical skirt and a top and is telescopingly fitted over the cap. There is a series of inwardly and downwardly extending lugs at the inner side of the junction of the top and skirt of the driver. A spacer at the center top of the cap holds the driver in normal, vertically spaced position. The lugs have vertical front edges which extend downwardly a distance sufficient to extend between and engage the ribs for driving the cap onto the container neck. The lugs also have vertical back edges which do not extend downwardly such distance when the driver is in normal position. The cap is removed from the container by flexing the periphery of the driver downwardly to engage the back edges of the lugs with the ribs on the cap. In another embodiment, the spacer is annular and holds the rim of the driver up, the lugs and ribs are at inner annular areas, the overcap and driver, respectively, and the central portion of the top of the overcap is flexed downwardly to engage the back edges of the lugs with the ribs for unscrewing the cap.

Abstract: A child-proof overcap for an aerosol can. The overcap has a cylindrical outer skirt, a circular top and an inner structure depending from the top. The inner structure carries two or more inwardly protruding lugs which are evenly spaced circumferentially. An annular element on the can has a similar number of outwardly extending lug threads adapted to be engaged by the lugs. Abstract: A tablet dispenser for a pill bottle. The dispenser has a cylindrical body which fits into the open neck of the bottle and defines an axially extending passage of such size that only one tablet or pill can pass through. Abstract: An improved container and child-proof closure therefor. The container has a neck surrounding an opening. At least two flanges project from the neck. Each flange has a spirally expanding first camming surface and a downwardly directed helical second camming surface which terminates at an inwardly directed end surface. The closure comprises outer and inner members. The outer member includes lugs for engaging the second camming surface as the cap is rotated on the container neck to a locked position for holding the closure on the neck. The inner member includes resilient means which ride over the first camming surfaces and abut the flange end when the closure is rotated to the locked position to prevent removal of the closure. Movement of the inner closure member against spring means within the outer closure member permits the closure to be rotated from the locked position for removal from the container. In one embodiment, means is provided for further tightening the closure on the container after it is in the locked position.

Abstract: A substantially tamperproof and childproof replaceable overcap for an aerosol spray can or the like which has a central dispensing valve at one end with an annular collar surrounding the dispensing valve. The cap is molded from a resilient material and has an inverted, cup-shaped, outer wall and an inner concentric skirt. The inner skirt is vertically slotted and has an inwardly turned retaining lip at its lower edge. The resiliency of the skirt biases the lip inwardly to engage beneath the collar of the can in order to retain the cap in place. A locking element which is manually rotatable between ''''Open'''' and ''''Locked'''' positions is mounted in an opening in the cap and extends downwardly between the cap wall and inner skirt to a position adjacent the lower end of the inner skirt. Engagement lugs are located on the outer side of the skirt at opposite sides of the slot in the skirt and near the bottom of the skirt. The lower end of the locking element extends between the engagement lugs on the skirt and is so shaped that rotation of the element to ''''Open'''' spreads the lower end of the skirt to reduce the degree of engagement of the retaining lip beneath the can collar so the cap can be removed. The upper end of the locking element extends upwardly through the top of the cap where it has a manually engageable head. A frangible tab on the upper end of the locking element is initially engaged in a recess in the body of the cap and prevents rotation of the locking element from ''''Locked'''' to ''''Open'''' position until it has been broken off.

Abstract: A safety closure for a medicine bottle or the like. The closure and bottle neck have cooperating lug and ramp means of the bayonet type. The closure is placed over the bottle neck, depressed onto the neck and rotated relative to the neck to engage the lugs and ramps. Abstract: An overcap and nozzle for an aerosol can or the like. The overcap has a finger depression in its top extending part way across and intersecting a nozzle opening also formed in the cap and through which the top of the nozzle protrudes. A user lays his finger in the recession and presses on the nozzle to release the spray out of a lateral orifice in the nozzle. The cap and nozzle have cooperating means which ensure their relative orientation with the orifice pointed away from the user. The cooperating means consist of a key and a keyway formed in the adjacent surfaces of the nozzle and the nozzle opening in the overcap. A ledge lying in a plane that is inclined to the axis of the nozzle is also formed on the surface having the keyway and engageable by the key so as to produce relative rotation of the nozzle and overcap as they are telescoped together longitudinally by insertion of the nozzle into the nozzle opening, thus ensuring entry of the key into the keyway without the necessity for careful manual or visual inspection by an operator.
