Abstract: A cap for a fluid dispensing container having a body and flange members on the body for holding the cap adjacent a dispensing area of the container is disclosed. Abstract: A safety closure for a container is disclosed. The container has a threaded neck, a shoulder, and one or more lug recesses and preceding camming surfaces on the periphery of the shoulder. The cap has an internally threaded inner wall and an outer, flexible, spaced concentric skirt. The skirt has one or more downwardly protruding lugs on its lower edge. Rotation of the cap relative to the bottle causes the lug to engage a camming surface. Continued rotation of the cap leads the lug into the lug recess, releasably locking the cap upon the container neck. The cap is removed by first applying an inward squeezing force to the cap skirt thereby flexing the lug outwardly to disengage the lug from the lug recess after which the cap can be rotated freely in a direction to unscrew the cap. In another embodiment, the container neck and cap have one or more partial threads so that the cap is thrust onto the neck which also cams the lug or lugs outwardly and then the cap is turned through only a partial revolution to engage the threads and move the lug into the recess.

Abstract: A child-proof protective overcap for an aerosol can. The can has a valve stem cap and an actuator nozzle centered therein, the valve stem cap being retained on the can by frictional engagement thereof with an annular lip on the valve mounting seam at the top of the breast portion of the can. The overcap has an inverted cup-shape with a circular, stiffly resilient top and two concentric skirts depending therefrom. The inner skirt extends circumjacently to the valve stem cap and the outer skirt extends into the annular groove at the seam between the body and breast portion of the can. The inner skirt and the valve stem cap have interfitting locking means. The resilient top biases the interfitting means into locking engagement and the locking means are disengagable by flexure of the top of the overcap and axial movement of the inner skirt followed by rotation of the overcap. In the preferred embodiment the interfitting means are bayonettype lugs and ramps.

Abstract: A safety package consisting of a one piece cap and a container having co-operating elements which make the closure significantly difficult of removal by a small child. The cap has a top and an internally threaded inner wall which mates with threads on the container neck. The cap also has an outer spaced, concentric flexible skirt. The shoulder of the container near the threaded neck has one or more recesses and the outer skirt of the closure has a corresponding number of depending lugs. Each lug snaps into a recess when the cap is threaded onto the neck to a sealed position. Inward deformation of the outer skirt is necessary to flex the skirt to move each lug radially outwardly beyond its recess in order for the cap to be removed. Cooperating means on the cap and container prevent the cap from being threaded onto the neck beyond the normally sealed position.

Abstract: A child-proof overcap and valve actuator for an aerosol can of the conventional type which has a central valve stem and an annular valve seam at the upper end of the can. The overcap and valve actuator are telescoped and have similarly contoured finger recesses and spray discharge openings extending across their tops. The valve actuator fits over a standard valve button and is rotatable relative to the overcap. The valve can be actuated by pressing down on the actuator to depress the valve button and the valve stem. The actuator and overcap have cooperating elements which prevent depression of the actuator when the two are in one relative angular, ''''locked'''' position and resilient means to bias them into the locked position. In order to discharge the contents, the user must rotate the actuator relative to the overcap in order to disengage the cooperating elements. Upon release of the actuator, the resilient means return it to the locked position.

Abstract: A tamper-proof and child-proof closure for a medicine bottle or the like. The closure consists of an inner cap having threads on its inner surface mating with threads on the bottle neck and an outer overcap enclosing the inner cap and normally rotatable relative thereto. Co-operating clutch means on adjacent surfaces of the inner and outer caps are engageable for unscrewing the inner cap by moving at least part of the overcap axially toward the bottle and then rotating the overcap. Abstract: A safety closure for a container having a threaded neck. The closure consists of a relatively stiff, inner threaded cap and a relatively resilient outer driver. The inner cap has a circular top and cylindrical skirt. There are a plurality of ribs on the outer side of the cap skirt at the periphery of the top. The driver has a cylindrical skirt and a top and is telescopingly fitted over the cap. There is a series of inwardly and downwardly extending lugs at the inner side of the junction of the top and skirt of the driver. A spacer at the center top of the cap holds the driver in normal, vertically spaced position. The lugs have vertical front edges which extend downwardly a distance sufficient to extend between and engage the ribs for driving the cap onto the container neck. The lugs also have vertical back edges which do not extend downwardly such distance when the driver is in normal position. The cap is removed from the container by flexing the periphery of the driver downwardly to engage the back edges of the lugs with the ribs on the cap. In another embodiment, the spacer is annular and holds the rim of the driver up, the lugs and ribs are at inner annular areas, the overcap and driver, respectively, and the central portion of the top of the overcap is flexed downwardly to engage the back edges of the lugs with the ribs for unscrewing the cap.
