The invention relates to the use of a modified Agrobacterium to deliver proteins directly to plant cells. Proteins of interest are delivered to the plant host in the form of a fusion protein with the Agrobacterium virulence protein VirF. Nucleotide sequences encoding such fusion proteins of VirF and a protein of interest are provided. Also provided are bacteria modified to comprise such fusion proteins of VirF and a protein of interest. Methods of introducing such fusion proteins into a plant host are provided.The invention finds use in facilitating plant transformation and particularly in the bio-engineering of desirable traits into crop plants.

An instrumentation data provider module is provided for use within a diagnostics application program. The instrumentation data provider module provides a communication path between legacy, or proprietary, diagnostics modules and a standard instrumentation platform. Through the instrumentation data provider module, diagnostics status messages may be translated into event messages and forwarded to the instrumentation platform. A data consumer module for use within a diagnostics application program is also provided. The instrumentation data consumer module provides a communication path between a presentation layer and an instrumentation platform. Through the data consumer module, a management console or other type of management application can register for and receive events from the instrumentation platform.

Diagnostic client modules transmit diagnostic result messages to a diagnostic event service module. The diagnostic event service module receives diagnostic result messages from the diagnostic client modules and relays the messages to diagnostic subscriber modules. Diagnostic subscriber modules may comprise a log writer module for storing the messages in a diagnostic results database or a progress viewer module for displaying an indication of the progress of a diagnostic test based on the diagnostic result messages. A method, system, and apparatus are provided for performing a diagnostic test on one or more managed system elements. The system includes a managed system element upon which the diagnostic test may be performed, a diagnostic setting object, and a diagnostics control module. The diagnostic setting object is derived from an industry-standard diagnostic setting object prototype and includes one or more properties specified by the prototype and a device-specific settings property identifying one or more settings for the diagnostic test specific to the managed system element. The diagnostics control module performs the diagnostic test on the managed system element and customizes the test according to the device-specific settings property in the diagnostic setting object. The diagnostic setting object may also include a precedence property that indicates whether the device-specific settings property should be utilized by the diagnostics control module rather than any default properties specified by the industry-standard diagnostic setting object prototype.
