Abstract: A flat or substantially flat luminous structure. First and second walls face each other and define an internal space that includes a light source. First and second electrodes for the light source generate electric field lines with at least one component perpendicular to the first and second electrodes, the first electrode supplied or configured to be supplied with a high frequency electromagnetic signal. As an outer covering for the first electrode, an electrical safety system includes an electrical conductor separated from the first electrode by a dielectric, the conductor connected or configured to be connected to a power supply with a potential V and/or with a frequency f, these being adjusted so that the peak value of the external leakage current is equal to 2 mA or less if f is zero, or equal to 0.7 mA or less if f is nonzero.
