Abstract:
A method and system for improving the quality of original metadata associated with media on a computer network, such as multimedia and streaming media, includes analyzing each field of the URL of the multimedia and streaming media. Each field is analyzed to identify new metadata associated with that field. Identified new metadata is added to the original metadata. In another embodiment, the fields in the URL are reorganized in reverse order and metadata associated with a prefix of fields of the reorganized URL is added to the original metadata. In yet another embodiment, the contents of the field next to the prefix of fields is used to improve the quality of the original metadata.
Abstract:
A method and system for utilizing metadata to search for media, such as multimedia and streaming media, includes searching for the media, receiving results, extracting metadata associated with the media, enhancing the extracted metadata, and grouping the search results in accordance with attributes of the enhanced metadata. Enhancing and grouping include adding related metadata to the database of metadata, iteratively using metadata to search for more media related data, removing duplicate URLs, collapsing URLs that are variants of each other, and masking out superfluous terms from URLs. The resultant metadata and media files are available to users and search engines.
Abstract:
A facility for selecting targeted advertising messages for presentation with sets of media sequences forming playlists is described. The facility stores search queries that are used by a user to locate pre-existing playlists, to generate new playlists, or to modify existing playlists. Prior to the use of a stored playlist, or contemporaneously with the use of a stored playlist, the facility uses the stored search queries to select one or more advertising messages to be presented with the media sequences in the playlist. The advertising messages that are presented may be updated each time the playlist is accessed in order to remove advertising messages from expired campaigns, to remove advertising messages that are not having a desired marketing effect, or to add new advertising messages.

Abstract:
A facility for processing a search query is described. The facility identifies one or more items that satisfy the query, at least one of which is a media sequence. For each identified media sequence, the facility identifies an advertising message based upon the contents of the query. In response to the query, the facility returns a search result that indicates the identified items. When one of the identified media sequences is selected in the search result, the selected media sequence is provided in conjunction with the advertising message identified for it.

Abstract:
There is provided a method of managing a plurality of data files using a plurality of schemas. The method comprises selecting a first schema from the plurality of schemas, determining current data files of the plurality of data files with respect to the first schema, identifying an outdated data file of the plurality of data files with respect to the first schema, selecting a transform file configured to transform the outdated data file into a current data file with respect to the first schema, transforming the outdated data file into a current data file with respect to the first schema by applying the transform file to the outdated data file. The method may further comprise validating the current data file against the first schema after transforming the outdated data file. The data files, schema, and transform file may comprise, respectively, an XML file, an XSD file, and an XSLT file.
