    摘要: A wound drainage reservoir which is a container having a resilient sidewall that defines a chamber within the container and wherein an opening extends through the sidewall. A helmet extends through the opening, which helmet has an extending lip that engages a portion of the sidewall of the container which surrounds the opening. A collar encircles and is bonded to the helmet for sealing such a portion of the sidewall between the lip of the helmet and the collar. A first inlet is on the helmet to provide a first fluid-flow conduit to the chamber. A second inlet is on the helmet to provide a second fluid-flow conduit to the chamber. A drainage outlet is on the helmet to provide a fluid-flow conduit from the chamber. A plurality of ribs extend laterally along the sidewall.

    摘要: Iris fixated intraocular lenses include an optic and at least one fixation member or haptic. The fixation member is joined to the optic and has a distal segment including a through-iris portion adapted to extend through an iris hole, and an anchor portion. The anchor portion has or is adapted to have an anchor structure positioned to be disposed proximate to a side of the iris so as to be a effective in fixating the intraocular lens to the iris. The anchor structure may be formed prior to inserting the intraocular lens in the eye or may be formed after the intraocular lens is inserted in the eye. Methods for inserting such intraocular lenses in the eye are also provided.

    摘要: The length of dwelling of a voice prosthesis in the fistula of a patient is extended by supporting the soft hollow body of the prosthesis with an elongated, rigid cartridge and mounting the flapper valve by means of a tab which extends through a slot in the flange of the cartridge. An enlarged cavity in the flange or the body communicates with the slot and receives the leading portion of the tab. The cavity is filled with adhesive to secure the valve to the cartridge.

    摘要: A surgically implantable shunt system, including a flow control valve and an antechamber, is provided for controlling the release of entrapped body fluids. The flow control valve includes a pair of molded plastic bases situated, respectively, adjacent to an inlet and an outlet of the valve, which bases are situated within a flexible encasement. Each base includes an outer housing, a valve membrane carrier positioned within the housing, and a flow control member. The flow control members each include a rigid nail-like central support and a separate flexible resilient membrane positioned on the central support. A first flow control member is capable of selectively occluding the valve inlet, but is normally spaced from its base to permit free fluid flow through the inlet. The second flow control member is generally arch-shaped and resiliently biased to contact its respective base generally along the outer edge of the membrane in a manner permitting only controlled one-way flow through the valve. The antechamber permits injection of medication into the shunt between a proximal catheter and the distal flow control valve, and pumping of the medication in either direction. Additionally, a method for assembling the shunt system in a quick and economical manner is provided, which utilizes tapered grommets to anchor components in place prior to adhesively securing tubing to the flexible encasement.

    摘要: Apparatus for measuring accommodation of a lens in an eye includes a target, a Badal lens, and a viewing aperture, where the Badal lens and the viewing aperture are positioned so that when the target moves towards or away from the lens, the apparent size of the target remains constant to a subject looking in the viewing aperture regardless of the distance the target moves. The apparatus may be provided in a compact housing and may include a mirror placed in the housing so that the viewing aperture can be placed away from the optical axis of the lens. The apparatus includes a controller to control the movement of the target. The apparatus measures the accommodation of a lens based on the distance the target moves during an examination. Methods of measuring accommodation of a lens in an eye of a subject are also disclosed.
