摘要: Embodiments of a modulable absorption light adjustable lens (MALAL) comprise a light adjustable lens that is capable of changing its optical properties upon an adjusting irradiation, including a photo-modifiable material; and a modulable absorption front protection layer, including a modulable absorption compound whose absorption properties can be modulated with a modulating stimulus. Other embodiments include a method of adjusting an optical property of a modulable absorption light adjustable lens, the method comprising: reducing an absorption of a modulable absorption compound of a modulable absorption front protection layer of the MALAL by a modulating stimulus, the MALAL having been previously implanted into an eye; and changing an optical property of a light adjustable lens of the MALAL by applying an adjusting irradiation.

摘要: Described herein are intraocular lenses and methods of implantation. In one aspect, the lens includes a shape changing optical element; a force translation element having a first end region coupled to the optical element and a second end region extending towards a ciliary structure, and an attachment portion coupled to the second end region of the force translation element and configured to contact the ciliary structure. The force translation element is configured to functionally transmit movements of the ciliary structure into a force exerted upon the optical element to effect an accommodating and a disaccommodating change of the optical element.

摘要: An accommodating intraocular lens device for treatment of an eye having a lens body; internal support; stabilization system; and force translation arm. The lens body includes an accommodating membrane, an annular element, a static element, and a fixed volume of optical fluid filling a sealed chamber of the lens body. The annular element coupled to the perimeter of the accommodating membrane has a shape deformation membrane configured to undergo displacement relative to the perimeter region. The sealed chamber is formed by inner surfaces of the accommodating membrane, shape deformation membrane, and static element. The force translation arm has a first end operatively coupled to the shape deformation membrane and a free end available and configured to engage a ciliary structure of the eye. The force translation arm is moveable relative to the lens body to cause inward movement of the shape deformation membrane. Related methods, devices, and systems are provided.

摘要: A device and method for forming an adaptive optic in the capsule of a human eye is disclosed, comprising a capsular interface enclosing an optically acceptable medium. The device establishes a physiologic range of optical power in response to a range of ciliary contractile states. The preferred bi-phasic medium of the device is comprised of a solid three dimensional polymeric network suspended in a liquid aqueous phase and bonded to a capsular interface. The polymeric network provides shape to the capsular interface, optical power, and a physiologic response to the suspensory ligament. The three dimensional network of the bi-phasic medium mimics the stacked fiber configuration and elasticity of a natural lens. An alternative embodiment utilizing a single phase medium is also disclosed with associated structural features provided in the capsular interface.

An example ophthalmic device may be an intraocular lens that includes a support structure, two optical windows, two immiscible fluids, and an elastic electrode. The support structure may have an inner surface defining an aperture with first and second optical windows disposed on opposite sides of the support structure and spanning the aperture. The two immiscible liquids may be disposed in a cavity formed by the aperture and the first and second optical windows, and the elastic electrode may be disposed on the inner surface. The elastic electrode may be formed from an elastic metal alloy having a minimum yield strain of 0.25%.

摘要: An eye-implantable electrowetting lens can be operated to control an overall optical power of an eye in which the device is implanted. A lens chamber of the electrowetting lens contains first and second fluids that are immiscible with each other and have different refractive indexes. By applying a voltage to electrodes of the lens, the optical power of the lens can be controlled by affecting the geometry of the interface between the fluids. When the electrowetting lens is inserted into the eye, the lens chamber may contain only one of the first and second fluids. The other fluid can be added after insertion through a needle, a tube, or some other means. Having only one of the first and second fluids in the lens chamber during insertion of the lens can prevent fouling of internal surfaces due to folding or other manipulation of the lens during the insertion process.

摘要: An accommodating intraocular lens (AIOL) for implantation within a capsular bag of a patient's eye comprises first and second components coupled together to define an inner fluid chamber and an outer fluid reservoir. The inner region of the AIOL provides optical power with one or more of the shaped fluid within the inner fluid chamber or the shape of the first or second components. The fluid reservoir comprises a bellows region with fold(s) extending circumferentially around an optical axis of the eye. The bellows engages the lens capsule, and a compliant fold region between the inner and outer bellows portions allows the profile of the AIOL to deflect when the eye accommodates for near vision. Fluid transfers between the inner fluid chamber and the outer fluid reservoir to provide optical power changes. A third lens component coupled to the first or second component provides additional optical power.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to sensor systems for electronic ophthalmic devices. In certain embodiments, the sensor systems may comprise a sensor such as an adjustable resistor configured in series with an eye of a user of the electronic ophthalmic device. The sensor systems may comprise a gain stage configured to amplify a signal indicative of a difference between a voltage drop across the eye and the adjustable resistor. The sensor systems may comprise an integrator configured to integrate the amplified signal. A resistance value of the adjustable resistor is configured to cancel a DC component of a resistance of the eye when an electrical current is caused to flow through the eye and the adjustable resistor. As such, the configured resistance value of the adjustable resistor is indicative of an impedance of the eye.
