An image is displayed in an optimum state in accordance with the state of a display. For this purpose, an FLCD interface mounted in an information processing apparatus and an FLCD for actually displaying an image are connected through a data transfer bus for transferring image data to be displayed and a serial communication line for performing communications between them. When the FLCD detects a change in its own state, this information is supplied to a CPU of the FLCD interface through the serial communication line. An instruction for changing, e.g., the operating mode is also transmitted from the FLCD interface to the FLCD through the serial communication line.

A high-definition display apparatus, such as a picture display, having a resolution at a level similar to that of a printer is connected to a data processor, such as a personal computer, to constitute a picture display apparatus, thereby displaying a document under preparation at a resolution level identical to that of the printer. As a result, an operator can confirm the style and appearance of a document under preparation to be printed on a real-time basis on the display apparatus, without necessitating actual printing out of the document under preparation. As a result, the printing time and paper for check-printing can be omitted to simplify the document preparation.

A disturbance of an image in the case where a display format is switched during the display operation is prevented without exerting an adverse influence on the operation of a display apparatus side. The apparatus comprises a display apparatus which has a plurality of display formats by a combination of an effective display region in which a display is performed and a non-display region in which no display is performed and has a memory performance of a display state in which either one of the display formats is selected and the display is executed; a display control apparatus for controlling the display format to be displayed by the display apparatus; means for detecting that the selected display format was changed; means for stopping a transmission request of display information by detecting that the display format was changed; means for measuring a period of time during which the transmission request of the display information is stopped; and means for restarting the transmission request of the display information when a predetermined period of time is measured.

A display control apparatus includes an input device to input image data, a memory to store the inputted image data by an amount corresponding to first and second image planes, a comparator to compare the stored image data of the first and second image planes, and a processor to halftone process the image data of the pixel in which the value of the image data of the first image plane is different from the value of the image data of the second image plane. A transmitting circuit transmits the data which has been halftone processed by the processor to a display apparatus such as a ferroelectric liquid crystal display. The image data is sent from a computer, a hard disc drive, a floppy disk drive, or the like.

A character processing apparatus provides improved layout and formatting. In a preferred embodiment, the character processing apparatus includes a character data memory for storing a plurality of groups of character data, a first format data memory for storing a plurality of format data each having a correspondence with a different one of the groups of character data and a second format data memory for storing a plurality of format data having no correspondence with character data. The apparatus designates either one of (a) the groups of character data stored in the character data memory and (b) the plurality of format data stored in the first format data memory, and further designates one of the plurality of format data stored in the second format data memory.
Abstract:
An information processor obtains information (home page) from an arbitrary information apparatus connected to the information processor via a network, and implements processing in which image data in the home page is extracted and stored so as to be correlated with a Uniform Resource Locator (URL). When the stored image data is designated with a mouse or the like, additional data are received from the information apparatus corresponding to the stored URL correlated with the stored image data, and are displayed. Thereby, image data extracted from a target homepage is used as a bookmark, which enables access to the target homepage, even if the number of bookmarks increases.

A display control apparatus of a display device which uses a ferroelectric liquid crystal as an operational medium to display or update image data comprises a data storage unit to store data which is displayed on a display device, a supplying unit to supply data to the data storage unit, a detector to detect a difference between the data supplied to the supplying unit and the data displayed at present on the display device, a memory to store data indicative of the result of the detection by the detector, a controller to supply the data stored in the data storage unit to the display device on the basis of the result of the detection stored in the memory, and a counter to count the number of different bits of the line detected by the detector. The detector detects such a difference for every line of the display device. The controller preferentially supplies the data to the display device in descending order of the number of bits counted for each line.

An image processing system which inputs and edits image data including document data and prints and displays a document with figures with a pleasing style. This system comprises: an output device which can output the image data including document data; a parameter adding device to add output parameters to edit the image data outputted by the output device; and an edition control unit which can edit, as a headline, at least a part of the image data outputted by the output device on the basis of the parameters added by the parameter adding device. These parameters include data such as position, size, character style, and the like of the headline. With this system, arbitrary information such as headline, catchword, line number, page number, caption, or the like can be extremely easily arranged at any position of the image data displayed on the CRT and the document with such information can be printed in a pleasing style. Also, document and figure data can be freely edited.

A digital television broadcasting receiving apparatus is arranged so as to execute a process requiring to stop an image display at the time of channel change-over, without giving a user a sense of incompatibility and forcing the user to perform unnecessary operations. The digital television broadcasting receiving apparatus can receive a digital television broadcasting signal and operates in accordance with an operation program stored in a memory. A system controller executes a data write process, such as an operation program update process and a memory storage area relocation process, of writing data in the memory if a channel change-over decision unit judges a channel change-over, for example, before a video decoder starts a decoding process for a channel data signal newly selected.

A designated program is recorded in a hard disk by a hard disk controller according to a program reservation database. A unique number is indicated at the head block of a video cassette tape for identifying the tape, and a genre of programs is recorded in the subsequent block of the tape. When the video cassette tape is loaded, the information concerning the genre is read, and if there is record information of the same genre as that of the tape contained in the hard disk, it is additionally recorded in the video cassette tape.
