    摘要: A media connector including a shield. The media connector includes an arch formed within the media connector. The arch has pin guides that allow the contact pins to be properly positioned within the media connector. The pin guides also keep the contact pins from touching each other. The arch forms an arch channel through which the shield exits the media connector. The shield extends out beneath the media connector beyond the portion of the contact pins that are exposed for contact with contacts of a media plug. When the media plug is inserted in the media connector, the shield covers the electrical connection thus formed to provide both protection and insulation of the electrical connection. The arch also includes a groove that permits the shield to rest within the confines of the media connector when the media connector is retracted.

    摘要: A communications card allows computers to be electrically connected to electronic devices and communications systems. The communications card includes a modular jack with a plurality of contact pins. The contact pins include a plug engaging portion that does not include any sections that are angled more than about 90° in order to minimize the stresses in the contact pins. The contact pins also include a connector portion that allows the contact pins to be electrically connected to a printed circuit board disposed within the communications card. Preferably, the plug engaging portion includes an elongated arm that aids in absorbing stress and deflection of the contact pins. Advantageously, the contact pins are designed to minimize the height of the modular jack such that the modular jack can be used with communications cards that comply with the PCMCIA Type III standards.

    摘要: The modular jack allows a RJ series connector plug to be attached to a communications card that conforms to the PCMCIA requirements for a Type III card. The modular jack includes a main body portion including a top surface, a bottom outer surface and a front surface. The receptacle is disposed entirely within the front surface of the modular jack such that no portion of the plug extends through either the top surface or the bottom surface of the main body portion of the modular jack. Thus, the modular jack allows the communications card to be connected to standard RJ series plugs without deviating from the Type III PCMCIA card height requirement, even when the plug is inserted into the jack. Desirably, the main body portion has a height measured from the top surface to the bottom surface that is generally equal to or less than about 10.5 mm. Additionally, the receptacle preferably includes an upper inner surface and a lower inner surface that are separated by a distance that is generally equal to or less than about 10.1 mm. The modular jack may also include a latching area that securely holds the connector plug within the receptacle, but allows the connector plug to be removed from the receptacle without the user depressing a biased clip of the connector plug if a predetermined force is applied to a body of the connector plug.

    摘要: A card edge connector allows a modular jack to be electronically connected to a PCMCIA Type III communications card. The card edge connector includes a modular jack with a main body portion having a top surface, a bottom surface, a front surface and a rear surface. A receptacle is disposed entirely within the front surface of the modular jack and the receptacle is sized and configured to receive a RJ series connector plug such that no portion of the plug extends through either the top surface or the bottom surface of the modular jack. A connector attached to the rear surface of the modular jack and the connector includes a socket sized and configured to receive a portion of a printed circuit board disposed within the communications card. Desirably, the card edge connector includes at least one contact pin including a plug engaging portion that extends into the receptacle and a printed circuit board engaging portion that extends into the socket.

    摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed for wireless communication of a computer with a wireless network or a wireless device. In one embodiment of the present invention, a pc card is configured for insertion into a computer pc card slot. Additionally, a sliding assembly is housed within the pc card. This sliding assembly is operable for sliding into a retracted position and a protruded position. When in the retracted position, the sliding assembly is mostly concealed within the pc card. When in the protruded position, the sliding assembly is partly exposed outside of the pc card. Furthermore, an antenna element is fitted inside the sliding assembly. When the sliding assembly is in retracted position, this antenna element enables wireless communication of a computer with a wireless network or a wireless device.

    摘要: An improved electrical connector for use in a communications card for interfacing between a media connector and a downsized computer is provided. In a preferred embodiment, the communications card comprises a retractable access portion and a fixed portion. The retractable access portion has an aperture formed therein configured to receive the media connector. A conductive terminal having a first and a second end mates with both the retractable access portion and the fixed portion. The first end makes electrical contact with the media connector while, simultaneously, the second end slidingly makes electrical contact with the fixed portion as the retractable access portion is extended beyond the computer housing during use. The sliding contact is accomplished by means of a conductive track disposed on the fixed portion. Since the fixed portion is in electrical communication with the computer, the media connector is also in electrical communication with the computer. A contact block may additionally be provided to align and electrically isolate the conductive track. A pin block having pivoting action is provided to accommodate the conductive terminal and to extend longevity of the conductive terminal. The pin block also ensures better electrical contact with the conductive track during use.

    摘要: An improved electrical connector for use in a communications card for interfacing between a shielded media connector and a downsized computer is provided. In a preferred embodiment, the communications card comprises a retractable access portion and a fixed portion. The retractable access portion has an aperture formed therein configured to receive the shielded media connector. A conductive pin block provides electrical continuity between the shielded media connector and the fixed portion. A conductive shielding terminal encounters the shielding jacket on the shielded media connector and provides the shielding path through a distal end encountering a ground path contact such as the conductive cover of a PCMCIA communications card. The conductive shielding terminal additionally employs a spring tab extending into the aperture of the retractable access portion for positive contact with the shielded media connector.

    摘要: This invention relates to a process for producing bis-[aminophenyl ketones] and the resulting compositions which are suitable for the preparation of engineering polymers, e.g., polyimides, polyurethanes and a host of other resinous materials. The bis-[aminophenyl ketones] are formed by reacting 2 moles of a nitrophenyl acid halide with an aromatic bridging composition having at least two hydrogen atoms of sufficient reactivity to undergo acylation reactions whereby nitrophenyl ketone groups are attached to the aromatic bridging group. The resulting bis-[nitrophenyl ketones] then are converted to the amine by hydrogenation or by double nucleophilic displacement with an aminophenol.The invention also relates to polyimides and polyamides prepared from such bis-[aminophenyl ketones].
