A method and apparatus of assembling a joint of an endless track chain for track-type machines to prevent end play in the joint is disclosed. The joint includes a pair of links and a cylindrical pin. Each link includes a outwardly offset outboard end collar having a boss extending outwardly therefrom and a bore therethrough. Each boss has an outer surface. The pin includes opposite end portions. Each end portion is pressed and non-rotatably mounted into respective one of the bores of the outboard end collars. The method comprises the steps of forming an annular groove about each of the end portions, placing a swage tool against the outer side surface of the boss in axial alignment with the pin, and applying a sufficient force on the swage tool to form at least one mechanically formed nodule protruding from the outer side surface into a respective ones of the grooves. The nodule having a cross-sectional configuration substantially conforming to the groove.

The work machine further includes a sensor for sensing position of the first frame member relative to the second frame member. Moreover, the work machine includes a controller which is electrically coupled to the sensor. The controller is configured to (i) communicate with the sensor so as to determine the position of the first frame member relative to the second frame member, and (ii) operate the fluid cylinder so as to move the first frame member relative to the second frame member based on the position of the first frame member relative to the second frame member. A method of tensioning a drive track chain is also disclosed.

An endless track chain is provided with a rotatable sleeve that is mounted about the track bushing to provide the track with longer external bushing life. The rotatable sleeve is sealed and lubricated, as is the standard track joint. However, each is separate from the other with its own supply of lubricant. As a consequence, a failure of a seal for the rotatable sleeve has no effect on the track hinge joint.

A track adjusting flow controlling mechanism sets the optimum tension or "controlled sag" in the endless track of a track type vehicle. A piston and associated valve assembly control flow of pressurized fluid to a track adjusting clyinder. Movement of the piston tensions the track with substantially no sag ("S") and subsequent retraction of the piston provides correct track tension with an optimum track sag ("S"). Supply of pressurized fluid to the piston and valve assembly is controlled by the vehicle operator from the operator's station. Conventional track adjusting operations require considerable time and effort and are often an undesirable task. In view of this, the adjusting task is often neglected with the resulting rapid wear of the track and related components. The subject track adjusting mechanism provides a quick and simple operation to provide proper track adjustment.

A drive sprocket assembly for driving an endless chain assembly for propelling a vehicle includes a housing, which is mountable to the power drive system of the vehicle, and a plurality of replaceable teeth structures which are secured to the housing. The housing includes a hub portion having a cushion band and spaced apart parallel flanges. Each tooth structure is in contact with the hub and is secured to the flanges by a plurality of retaining pins. Each tooth structure is resiliently isolated from the hub by the cushion band and from adjoining teeth structures by non-metallic pads. Conventional drive sprocket assemblies utilize a one-piece toothed sprocket, or sprocket segments having several teeth, bolted to a support member. These prior sprocket assemblies produce considerable noise from impacting of the sprocket teeth with an endless chain assembly. The subject sprocket assembly produces low levels of noise by utilizing individually replaceable teeth structures which are resiliently isolated from the support housing and from adjoining teeth structures.

The track roller is rotatably supported by a bearing that includes a shaft extending in the track roller and at least one sleeve rotatable about the shaft. A method is further provided of reducing edge loading of a track roller bearing, by transmitting selected loads on the bearing toward a center thereof at least in part by crowning a rotatable sleeve of the bearing.

A boom is positioned between the first and second wall portions and has a bore that is alignable with the bores in the first and second wall portions. A pin cartridge assembly is positioned in the bores of the first and second inserts and the boom. The pin cartridge assembly includes a pin having first and second end portions and an outer surface. A first collar having a through bore and a counter bore at one end, the collar is disposed about the outer surface of the pin. A second collar having through bore and a counter bore at one end, the collar is disposed about the outer surface of the pin. A bushing has a stepped bore that is rotatably disposed about the outer surface of the pin. A pair of sleeve bearings, one each being interposed the counter bore of the first and second collars and the stepped bore of the bushing.
