摘要： A child resistant lighter device is disclosed which includes a body defining reservoir for containing a combustible gaseous medium such as butane, and having a valve arranged to be selectively actuated between a normally closed position and an open position which permits the exit of the gaseous medium. Such child resistant lighter can selectively produce sparks at a location proximate to the gaseous medium exit to ignite the gaseous medium, and a safety mechanism prevents actuation of the valve to the open position when sparks are produced. Such child resistant lighter device embodies a resiliently releasable safety latch which prevents the actuation of the valve actuator to the open position. The safety latch is selectively movable to a position out of interference with the valve actuator, so that the gaseous medium may be released and ignited by the sparks. The safety latch is resiliently structured and mounted such that once a flame is produced and the valve actuator is released, the safety latch returns to its closed or locked position to prevent actuation of the valve actuator to the open position by prevention of the pivotal motion. To "re-use" the lighter, the safety-latch must again be moved to the open or unlocked position so that the valve actuator can be opened for subsequent ignition of the gaseous medium. Such mechanism is difficult for a young child to light, but is capable of actuation by adults.

摘要： A writing instrument such as a pen having an elongated housing of an extruded plastic tube, a molded tip member which is press fit into one end of the housing, a cartridge containing a writing medium therein such as ink therein, and including a writing tip for contacting a substrate such as paper, a molded combined clip/cam member press fit into the opposite end of the housing for retaining the cartridge therein, and an extension and retraction system for positioning the cartridge in either a first position where the tip extends beyond the forward end of the tip member or in a second position where the cartridge and tip are retained within the tip member and housing. The clip/cam member preferably includes a clip for attachment to clothing or the like while the housing preferably includes a matte finish thereon. This soft finish may be achieved by sand blasting the housing or by including an outer covering of a soft feel material such as a soft plastic or elastomer. When the outer covering is included, decorative score lines may be provided therein, either circumferentially or longitudinally.

摘要： A clip assembly for an elongated instrument which includes a base portion, a resilient elongated member extending from the base portion and means extending from the base portion dimensioned for insertion into an aperture defined by the elongated instrument for snap-locking engagement therewith and attachment of the base portion thereto. In its preferred form the elongated instrument is a pen which includes a body member having a reservoir of writing medium and a writing tip, a cap member configured and dimensioned for mating engagement with the body member; and a clip. The clip includes a base portion, a resilient elongated member extending from the base portion; and means extending from the base portion configured and dimensioned for insertion into an aperture defined by the body or cap member of the writing instrument for snap-locking engagement therewith and attachment of the base portion thereto. The base portion and resilient elongated member are configured and dimensioned such that attachment of the base portion to the body or cap member of the writing instrument will retain the elongated member in generally parallel and sufficiently close proximity to the writing instrument for attachment of the writing instrument to wearing apparel or the like.
