Disclosed is an apparatus for calcining raw materials in the form of powder or particles. The gases entrain the particles to spiral upward in the calcining furnace. In an upper throttle chamber the relatively coarse particles which have not been completely calcined are separated from the gas flow and returned into the calcining zone to be calcined again. This pattern of material flow is repeated several times. The calcining efficiency can be improved, so that the furnace can be made small in size. The uniformly calcined particles are discharged from the top of the furnace and introduced into one or more cyclone separators through an outlet duct including a 180.degree. bend section.

The present invention relates to a system in accordance with which the switching signal produced in one piece of equipment is transmitted to another piece of equipment through a digital/analog converter. The transmitted analog signal is further converted into a digital signal by means of an analog/digital converter in the above equipment so as to carry out the switching control of the circuits and so on in the equipment by means of the signal converted into digital form. This is done so that the transmission of the switching signal between a plural number of pieces of equipment comparatively close to each other or under the condition where mixture of noise hardly cannot readily take place might be realized by means of a very small number of wires.

A self-timer device for a motion picture camera of the type having a first motor for driving a film feeding device and a shutter device and a second motor for driving other moving parts such as a zoom lens system. In the device, automatic photographing controlling means which is provided with cam portions for controlling the timing for starting and stopping the camera release operation is operated by the second motor. For photographing, an interlock arrangement between the second motor and the other moving parts which are to be driven by the motor is released while, at the same time, the cam portions of the controlling means are brought into a given relation to a camera release arrangement. This is done in such a manner that the timing for starting and stopping the camera release, i.e. the time intervals between setting for automatic photographing and the actual commencement of it and between the start of photographing and the end of it, is controlled by the cam portions of the controlling means as the controlling means is operated by the second motor to accomplish an automatic photographing operation.

In a drive system for driving an electric motor at a given rotational speed, an electric power source drives the motor. A switching arrangement connected in series with the power source applies discontinuous pulses to the electric motor. A signaler coupled to the motor has an output corresponding to the rotational speed of the motor and actuates an oscillator which produces pulse signals in response thereto. A threshold circuit responds to the pulse signals and to the signal generator and controls the switching arrangement. According to another arrangement, a bistable multivibrator is coupled to the motor and produces an output corresponding to the speed of the motor. A trigger then triggers a monostable multivibrator that produces pulses having times related to the desired speed of the motor. An AND gate responds to the two multivibrators and sets a flip-flop which is reset in response to the bistable multivibrator so that the flip-flop can drive driving means coupled to the motor for controlling the speed of the motor.

A controlling apparatus adapted to drive a D.C. motor at a constant speed in synchronization with an external reference signal. In order to detect rotational speed of the D.C. motor, a tachogenerator is provided, and means for generating a reference signal is also provided. A comparator circuit is provided to compare a frequency signal from the tachogenerator with a reference frequency signal from the reference signal generation means. A current controlling semi-conductor, which is turned ON or OFF by an output from the comparator circuit, is connected in series with the D.C. motor and the power source. With this arrangement, a voltage applied to the D.C. motor may be varied in response to conduction and non-conduction of the current controlling semi-conductor to enable the D.C. motor to initiate self-starting and to be driven at a constant speed synchronously with a reference signal after it has reached its synchronous speed.
