A covering band separating the weft inserters from their driving mechanism, for example, a driving chain in multiple-shed weaving machines wherein the band forcibly resiliently engages the inserters. The covering band possesses its highest elasticity in the direction of the driving force of the chain, and in the direction perpendicular to said driving force. In the directions lying intermediate, the direction of the driving force and the direction perpendicular thereto, the elasticity of the covering band is at its lowest. The covering band is firmly clamped along the two sides thereof on a guide for the chain.

A decrease in tension of weft threads being supplied is scanned and transformed into an electric signal adapted to give an impulse for stopping the drive of the weaving machine before an incorrectly weftfilled inserter has entered the warp shed.

A spinning apparatus comprises a rotary spinning chamber mounted for rotation about a first axis and having in its interior an internal circumferential slip surface concentric with this first axis and onto which fibers to be spun are to be deposited. A carding roller is mounted for rotation about a second axis, and a fiber supply channel connects the carding roller with the interior of the spinning chamber to transmit fibers from the carding roller to the spinning chamber. The outlet opening of the supply channel is located in a plane paralleling the first axis of rotation of the spinning chamber and is so configurated as to discharge fibers at right angles to this first axis onto an area of the slip surface which corresponds in outline at least substantially to the configuration of the outlet opening.

Fibrous sliver is carded for separating it into its constituent fibers. A stream of gaseous fluid is advanced in a predetermined path, and the separated fibers are advanced in an other path which intercepts the predetermined path at an acute angle so that the direction of advancement of the fibers entering the predetermined path from the other path is altered at this acute angle in response to engagement of the fibers by the stream of gaseous fluid whereupon the fibers are straightened out and conveyed to a rotary spinning chamber.
