Abstract: A pneumatic tire includes a carcass ply and a belt structure having an overlay ply disposed radially outward of the carcass ply in a crown portion of the tire. The overlay ply comprises at least one composite cord. The cord comprises one aramid first yarn twisted helically about one nylon second yarn. The first yarn has a first modulus of elasticity and the second yarn has a second modulus of elasticity.

Abstract: A pneumatic tire for use on aircraft has a tread, a crown reinforcement, and a radial carcass reinforcement having at least one axially inner ply of textile cords wound around a pair of bead cores, at least one axially inner ply being wound around the bead core in each bead from inside to the outside forming outside turn-ups and at least one axially outer ply of textile cords extending from bead to bead along the turn-ups of the at least one axially inner ply. The at least one axially inner ply or at least one axially outer ply has merged cords having a percent elongation at break of 12% to less than 20% and a break strength greater than 1050 N with a linear density of greater than 9,000 dtex. Merged cord reinforcement is preferably used in the ply layers or strips of the crown reinforcement as well.

Abstract: A pneumatic tire includes a carcass reinforced by a carcass ply, at least one belt ply disposed radially outward of the carcass ply in a crown portion of the pneumatic tire, and at least one overlay ply disposed radially outward of the belt ply in the crown portion of the pneumatic tire. The overlay ply includes at least one composite cord having at least one first core yarn with at least one second outer metallic filament wrapped around the first core yarn such that the first core yarn has a modulus less than a modulus of the second outer metallic filament. The first core yarn has a diameter in the range between 0.012-0.035 inches and a twist in the range between 5-15 TPI. The second outer metallic filament is twisted about the first core yarn between 3-14 TPI.

The preferred cord construction is 6.7 (A)+4.5 (N)/6.7 TPI. The cord reinforcement is preferably used in the ply layers or strips of the crown reinforcement as well.
