    摘要: An apparatus, modules, means, and computer readable media for and a method of logging critical events to a critical event log storage area on a disc in a disc drive are disclosed. The disc drive having a data storage disc is operably connected to a host computer. The data communication between the host computer and the disc drive is established via a disc drive interface. The disc drive interface may be an ATA disc drive interface. A power-on operational status of the disc drive with the host computer is determined. Then a critical event is determined without a host computer intervention. A set of critical events are predefined and stored in the firmware of the disc drive. The critical event can be monitored and logged either during an on-line data collection mode or an off-line data collection mode. During the off-line data collection mode, the firmware performs off-line scan of the disc drive in the background. The determined critical event is logged to the critical event log by reading the critical event log from the critical event log storage area on the disc; appending the determined critical event to the critical event log; and storing the appended critical event log to the critical event log storage area on the disc.

    摘要: A method of constructing a ferrite magnetic head that can be used for vertical recording. The head is created by first bonding a non-magnetic shoe to the legs of a C-Shaped magnetic core to create a block assembly. A pole surface of the block is then lapped and sputtered with a magnetic pole material. A layer of alumina is then sputtered onto the magnetic pole material. After sputtering, the block is ground to create air bearing grooves and a plurality of poles. The bearing surface of the block is then lapped to the apex of an oblique interface between the shoe and core to create the throat of the pole. The block is cut into individual transducer cores which are then wrapped with a wire coil and attached to a flexbeam.

    摘要: A cable operated drum brake has an internal brake operating lever (12) provided with an quick-attach device (10) for an operating cable (11). A cable attachment tube (21) projects from a backplate (17) of the brake and the operating cable has a cable inner (13) with a latching formation (14) on the end thereof and a cable outer sleeve (15). An end portion of the operating cable is slideable towards (X) the backplate (17) within the tube (21) up to a first position at which further movement towards the backplate is stopped by contact between an abutment (26) on the tube and a cooperating abutment (31a) on the cable outer sleeve. When in the first position the latching formation (14) has moved passed the quick-attach device (10). The cable is then subsequently moveable away from the backplate (Y) within the tube to a second position in which the latching formation (14) on the cable inner is fully engaged with the quick-attach device (10). A fastening means (39,40) is provided to lock the cable in the second position relative to the tube to maintain the latching formation (14) engaged with the quick-attach device (10) during subsequent operation of the brake. The invention also provides a method of attaching an operating cable to a quick-attach device on an internal brake operating lever of a drum brake.
