An improved high gloss ink for use in children's writing instruments is described. The improved high gloss ink avoids the use of metal-containing pigments and their relatively high costs. Further, the inks disclosed herein are affective in imparting a shiny or glossy appearance when dried on a porous or thin paper substrate, such as those commonly used for children's art materials, such as construction paper and paper used to fabricate children's coloring books. Thus, the inks disclosed herein not only provide a shiny or glossy appearance when dried, but also avoid bleed-through problems when used on thin paper substrates.

A fluid control system for writing instruments, correction fluid dispensers and self contained paint brush and paint reservoirs is disclosed. The fluid control system includes two filters or reservoirs, including a hydrophobic filter/reservoir and a hydrophilic filter/reservoir. The hydrophobic and hydrophilic elements may be spaced adjacent to and in abutting engagement with each other or a gap or space may be disposed therebetween. The hydrophobic element is disposed adjacent to the fluid reservoir (i.e., ink, correction fluid, paint reservoir or other water based fluid) and the hydrophilic element is disposed adjacent to the applicator tip or brush.

System and methodologies for timing synchronization in a wireless communication system are provided herein. The provided systems and methodologies can utilize various timing synchronization algorithms and an associated state machine to reduce the down time of a wireless communication system due to the presence of simultaneously operating piconets (SOP) and/or other factors. Frequency band finger pattern detection techniques are additionally described that can reduce boundary mismatch rates for wireless receivers. In one example, by making use of the fact that time frequency codes (TFCs) possess unique frequency hopping patterns, system down time can be reduced and OFDM boundary matching can be enhanced to allow a receiver to obtain correct timing information even for communication channels having a very low SINR.

The disclosure is generally related to writing instruments capable of making markings containing large diameter glitter pigment particles, and glitter ink compositions for the same. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a capillary-action marker comprising a glitter ink composition comprising glitter pigment particles having a particle size greater than about 12.1 microns in at least one dimension and at least one solvent, a low density ink reservoir for storing the glitter ink composition, and a porous nib in fluid communication with the low density ink reservoir.

An improved color changing correction fluid is provided which includes either a volatile base or a volatile acid in combination with a color changing pH indicator, all in a water based fluid or system. As the fluid dries, the volatile base or acid evaporates along with the water and the pH color changing indicator changes from a colored state to a clear state. For white paper, a white pigment is utilized and therefore the fluid changes from a colored state to a white finished state as the solvent water and acid or base evaporates. Different color pigments can be utilized to match the color of the particular paper or substrate.
