摘要: An optical image reader is provided. The image reader includes, for example, a targeting system for an imager, which includes a light device having a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs), each for emitting light, and a device for shaping a single targeting light based on the outputs of the plurality of LEDs. The image reader includes, for example, an image system for capturing image of an indicia on an object, which includes a targeting light source for providing a targeting light to the indicia on the object; and an optical system for focusing reflection from the object, having a liquid focus lens element having a variable focus, and a controller for controlling the focus of the focus lens. The image reader includes, for example, a system for capturing an image of an indicia on an object, which includes an image sensor for sensing reflection from the object, and an ambient light sensor for sensing the reflection from the object prior to the sensing by the image sensor to calculate a first estimate for exposure of the image sensor.

The targeting system projects a predetermined pattern having two or more components onto the target such that the components maintain a uniform distance between one another to bound the target and further vary in size as a function of their distance between the image reader and the target. The targeting system comprises targeting LED's, apertures positioned over the targeting LED's, and cylindrical lenses positioned over the apertures. With this arrangement, at least two vertical lines are projected onto a target such that the lines maintain a uniform distance apart from one another, but vary in length as a function of the reader distance from the target. This allows the operator to quickly position the imaging device over a target.

摘要: The optical image reader is versatile since it can be assembled for use in a variety of reader applications, such as an ultra high definition reader, a high definition reader, a standard reader and an ultra long range reader. In addition to a housing enclosing an image sensor, an adjustable objective lens assembly for focusing an image of a target on the image sensor and a light source for illuminating and/or targeting the target, the reader includes a light shaping optical element array comprising optical elements assembled together as an integral unit and adapted to be fixed to the housing for shaping and directing light on the target. The optical elements are mounted on a panel, which is adapted to be fixed to the reader housing either permanently, or releasably to permit replacement of the panel on the housing. The method of assembling the image reader comprises the steps of selecting a light shaping optical element array from the variety of optical element arrays for the specific application, adjusting the objective lens assembly for optimum focal length for the specific application, and fixing the light shaping optical element array panel to the image reader housing. The present invention is further directed to a kit for an imaging system. The kit for an imaging system comprises an image reader mounted in a housing and one or more light shaping optical element array panels, each adapted to be releasably attached to the image reader housing.

摘要: A camera module, having a objective lens that can be displacd to set the focal distance for a number of predetermined applications, is described. The objective lens is displaced by an electro-mechanical system. An operator selects a particular focal distance corresponding to a particular scanning application through a control interface. A current source supplies a current proportional to the selected focal distance to a solenoid. The solenoid plunger is connected to a lever that is coupled to the objective lens to move it to the selected focal distance within the camera module.
