A multicolor electrostatic recording apparatus in which two or more different color toner image are superimposed by respective electrostatic recording units. Each of the electrostatic recording units includes an electrostatic latent image carrier, a developer for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on the carrier with a color toner, and a detector for detecting the density of the developed image on the basis of a detecting mark which is formed on the carrier as a part of the latent image and developed by the developer. A discriminating means compares the density data with an optional desired density value to discriminate whether the density data falls in an allowable range. A controller feed-back controls at least one of parameters for determining the density of the developed image so that the density becomes to be in the allowable range, when the density falls out of the allowable range. The parameter is memorized as a compensating data for the density of the developed image, when the density falls in the allowable range. Thus, with the compensating data, a process using the parameter for determining the density of the developed image is carried out.

A toner image transfer type recording apparatus having a cleaning unit for removing residual contaminants from the surface of a rotating recording drum after toner image transfer. The cleaning unit includes a blade which engages the surface of the drum, a rotatable cleaning cylinder disposed immediately upstream from the blade, and a housing structure surrounding the blade and the rotatable brush. The housing is evacuated by an air pump connected thereto, causing external air to be introduced through an opening of the housing to facilitate removal of the contaminants from the housing. The rotatable cleaning cylinder continuously removes larger particles of contaminants which are accumulated at the cleaning edge of the blade while the smaller particles of contaminants serve to lubricate the area between the cleaning blade and the surface of the recording drum.

A toner container for accommodating a toner is mounted on the housing. The toner in the toner container is supplied into the housing and agitators agitate the toner in the housing. A first doctor blade regulates the developer carried on the conveyor roller, a second doctor blade regulates the developer on the first developing roller, and scrapers scrape the developer from the second and third developing rollers.

A toner content control apparatus senses the toner content of developer in a developer station, and performs toner content control by replenishing the consumed toner in the developer station according to the result of a comparison between the sensed toner content and the predesignated standard value. The toner content control apparatus of the present invention is realized by providing a toner content sensor having a sensitivity control circuit. A controller, when the developer is changed, determines an optimum sensor sensitivity control data with which the sensor gives an optimum sensitivity. The controller outputs sensor sensitivity control data to the sensitivity control circuit and updates the sensor sensitivity control data by reducing or increasing the data by a correction value according to whether the difference between the output data of the sensor and the predesignated reference value is positive or not. The controller also determines an optimum sensor sensitivity control data by using the updated sensor sensitivity control data and by halving the correction value until the difference comes within the predesignated allowable error. The controller also performs toner content control with the determined sensitivity control data set in the sensitivity control circuit.

In an electrophotographic/electrostatic recording apparatus especially for high speed recording, a toner image on a recording sheet is fused thereon by a flash lamp in a fixing unit, and smoke is generated thereby. Smoke and toner dust in the ambient air should be removed before it is exhausted out of the apparatus by drawing the air through an air filter. The invention discloses that is it effective to use an air filter structure comprising a plurality of filter units, wherein a first filter unit made of electrostatically charged fibrous material is utilized at the inlet side of the air filter. The first filter unit has a comparatively greater porosity and attracts and removes toner particles charged with the opposite polarity to that of the electrostatically charged fibrous material. Therefore, the air, a substantial part of toner dust being removed therefrom, can more easily enter into the following filter units for removal of smoke, resulting in increased endurance of the air filter.
