    摘要: There is provided a method and apparatus for detecting an object, especially an object remotely placed in a field of view (FOV) using optical pulses with non-uniform pulse power, without exceeding the Accessible Emitted Limit (AEL) A plurality of optical pulses including two or more levels of pulse power may be emitted to detect an object in the FOV. Information related to the object may be generated from the returning optical pulses. The optical pulses with non-uniform pulse power may result in increased probability of detection associated with the pulses returning from the remotely located object, and therefore the density of point clouds associated with the remotely located object may be increased.

    摘要: A monitoring and calibration apparatus for an optical networking device such as ROADM is provided. Reflectors are integrated into the device, for example at the ends of optical interconnect cables. The reflectors reflect light in specific monitoring wavelengths and pass other wavelengths such as those used for communication. A light source emits monitoring light which is reflected by the reflector and measured by a detector to measure the integrity of optical paths. The optical paths can include optical cables and cable connectors. Path integrity between different modules of the device can therefore be monitored. Multiple reflectors, reflecting light in different wavelengths, can be placed in series along the same optical path and used to monitor multiple segments of the path. A wavelength selective switch (WSS) of the device can be used to route monitoring light to different optical paths. The WSS also operates to route communication signals in the device.

Spatially separated wavelength channels of an optical signal are directed onto an optical deflector array. The optical deflector array is configured so that each wavelength channel is incident on a respective region of the optical deflector array. The optical deflector array is controlled so that, for one or more of the wavelength channels: i) a first portion of the region of the optical deflector array upon which the wavelength channel is incident is configured to steer a first portion of the wavelength channel toward a switching output port; and ii) a second portion of the region is configured to steer a second portion of the wavelength channel toward a monitoring output port.
