    Abstract: An electrical motor and drive (10) comprises a motor unit (13) having a stator (32) and a rotor (33) disposed inside a housing (29), the rotor (32) being supported inside the annular stator (33) by a shaft (30) which is rotatably mounted to the housing (29) by bearings (39). A variable speed drive unit (11) of the motor (10) comprises a plurality of electronic components (35), an elongate flow duct (19) and heatsink having elongate fins (17) which extend along the flow duct (19). A fan unit (12) is disposed between the motor and drive units (11, 13), the fan portion comprising a centrifugal fan (25) mounted on the shaft (30) and having a central air intake which faces axially towards the drive unit (11). The flow duct (19) extends to the fan intake so that the fan (25) draws air along the flow duct (19) to efficiently dissipate heat from the fins (17) and is expelled radially.

    Abstract: A permanent magnet electrical machine comprises a stator 12 having a plurality of stator coils 15 extending around respective stator teeth 14, the coils 15 having respective coil axes extending parallel to the rotational axis of the machine. A rotor 20 axially spaced apart from the stator 12 has a plurality of circumferentially arranged permanent magnets 21. The stator teeth 14 and magnets 21 comprise opposed faces on opposite sides and an air gap 23, the faces being of a complementary profile having both a radially facing, in-between facing and an axially-facing component of inclination relative to the rotational axis of the machine. The inclination of the opposed faces maximises the active surface area for magnetic flux thereby substantially increasing the power density and efficiency of the motor compared with conventional axial flux machines.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments a compact, cost-effective variable speed pump (100) for improving the cooling of an outer rotor electric machine including: a wet/fluid compartment (101), a variable speed drive (102) with power electronics, a liquid cooling plate (103) and an outer rotor permanent magnet (104) as shown in FIG. 1. The drive (102) is strategically positioned adjoining the wet/fluid compartment (101) as the heat generated by the electronics is transmitted to the flowing liquid. The liquid cooling plate (103) having cooling pipes (5a, 5b) is interposed between the power electronics and the outer rotor motor (104) comprising a rotor (9) arranged on the outside of a stator (6), wherein the stator (6) included concentrated windings (7). The cooling pipes (5a, 5b) carry liquid through the inlet pipe (5a) and discharge through the outlet pipe (5b) to effectively cool both the power electronics on one side and the motor windings (7) on the other side.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are high-power hybrid electric jet propulsion systems and methods for creating thrust using electric propulsion and chemical reaction. Embodiments include powering a Stage1 (6) electric machines (6b) through motor controllers for spinning a shaft (5), which spins a fan (2) to draw in air through the engine cowl (1) into Stage1 (6) where it gets compressed and heated. The air is then passed into a cyclonic combustion chamber (7) for mixing with a fuel to create a medium (X1). The medium (X1) is then passed into the turbine blades (8a) in Stage2 (8) to the spin shaft (5). The shaft (5) is configured to produce the high bypass thrust (10) and the jet exhaust thrust (9).

    Abstract: There is described a next-generation electronic magnetic gearing (eDTS) for an inverter drive for an electric vehicle including a primary firmware having an AI system to oversee all the operational aspects of the powertrain hardware and system firmware. The AI receives information from various sources such as shift maps, sensors data etc. and regularly alters and updates the algorithm and the data of the said maps and the hardware parameters based on usage and ageing to their respective firmware libraries, stored in an inverter drive's non-volatile memory or in the cloud. The stored data are accessed by the primary and system firmware and utilize the updated information to determine the most efficient winding configuration.
