Abstract: An electric motor comprises a stator presenting a first surface. A rotor is rotatable relative to the stator. The rotor presents a rotor raceway disposed in spaced relationship with the first surface of the stator. The first surface of the stator defines a plurality of slots in spaced relationship with one another to define a plurality of spaced teeth between the slots. At least one electrical conductor is disposed in each of the slots and configured to selectively create a moving magnetic field for acting upon the rotor for providing rotational movement of the rotor. A portion of the at least one electrical conductor extends substantially into radial alignment with, or past the first surface of the stator to at least partially define a stator raceway of the stator for engaging the rotor raceway of the rotor during relative radial movement between the rotor and the stator.

Abstract: A novel high torque density double stator permanent magnet electric machine is provided. An outer stator is provided which has complex teeth and optionally can have windings every tooth or every other tooth. A rotor is provided having a plurality of magnet receivers, each with a complex topology. Magnets are provided in the rotor which are tangentially magnetized with alternating polarities and a complex topology to increase torque density. An inner stator is provided having a plurality of teeth with complex topologies. Windings are provided around every tooth or every other tooth, alternatively. Air-gaps are provided between the outer stator and the rotor and between the rotor and inner stator. The air-gap between the inner stator and the rotor is smaller than the air-gap between the outer stator and the rotor. A lower current density in certain windings improves thermal response without comprising average torque.

Abstract: Aspects of a synchronous electric motor, including a synchronous interior permanent magnet or a synchronous reluctance motor, are disclosed. The outer edges of pockets and magnet pockets, including flux barriers, selectively include one or more notches at the front of the pockets. The use of these notches may redirect flow of the magnetic flux such that overall torque ripple may be reduced without significantly adversely affecting the average torque output of the motor. In some embodiments, various characteristics of the notches may be changed to achieve optimal performance including number, geometry, and location of the notches on select outer edges of the pockets. Another characteristic includes symmetry of the notches or asymmetry, whether in the radial and longitudinal directions of the rotor.

Abstract: Provided is a magnetic gap length estimating device in which neither a current sensor nor a current load is necessary, and a voltage at a connection-wire neutral point does not need to be measured. A magnetic gap length estimating device for estimating a magnetic gap length in an M-group N-phase rotating electric machine to be driven by an inverter includes: a voltage acquiring unit which acquires a no-load-induced line-to-line voltage induced under no load; and a magnetic gap estimating unit. The magnetic gap estimating unit includes: a spectrum analysis unit which converts the no-load-induced line-to-line voltage acquired by the voltage acquiring unit into amplitudes and phases for respective frequencies; a frequency analysis unit which extracts amplitudes and phases of a fundamental wave component and an Nth-order harmonic component of the no-load-induced line-to-line voltage; and an estimating-and-calculating unit which estimates the magnetic gap length.

The main stator device and the exciter field device lie in on a common plane normal to an axis of rotation, and the exciter armature device is inwardly spaced from the exciter field device, main stator device, and the rotor field device.

Abstract: An electric machine includes a rotor located at and rotatable about a central axis and a stator positioned proximate to the rotor and defining a radial machine gap between the rotor and the stator. A cold plate is positioned proximate to the rotor. Abstract: A claw-pole magnetic levitation torque motor includes a stator component and a rotor component. The stator component includes an end cover, upper and lower claw poles, coil skeletons, coils, and a flux guide sleeve. The cavity formed between the upper and lower claw poles accommodates the coil skeletons, on which coils are wound. The rotor component includes a ring-shaped shell, a permanent magnet, a base, and a shaft. The shell is fitted outside the claw poles, the bottom of the shell includes a base having a base platform shoulder, in the center of which a blind hole is opened. The lower end of the shaft is fixedly arranged in the blind hole, and the upper end of the shaft passes through the flux guide sleeve. The stator component is assembled with the rotor component through a gap-fitting between the magnetic guide sleeve and the shaft of the rotor component.
