Abstract: Methods and systems for implementing experimental trials on utility grids. Variations in grid parameters are selected to introduce into utility grids to improve the value of learning from each experimental trial and promoting improved utility grid performance by computing expected values for both learning and grid performance. Those trials are used to manage the opportunity costs and constraints that affect the introduction of variations into utility grid parameters and the generation of valid data that can be attributed to particular variations in utility grid parameters.

Abstract: A lighting system comprising a light engine, a duct connected to the light engine defining a light transport passage for transporting light emitted from the light engine along a propagation direction through the duct, one or more light output surfaces on the duct through which light is emitted, the light engine comprising arranged sequentially in a single file: a light collimator having an output end arranged to face the light transport passage, a LED light source arranged to direct light into an input end of the light collimator, and a heat sink thermally coupled to the LED light source.
