摘要: Glass particles comprise glass microbubbles. The glass particles have a size distribution with a d50 in the range of from 15 to 100 microns, and have a true density of less than 0.7 g/cm3. The glass particles comprise, on an equivalent weight basis: from 50 to 70 weight percent silica; from 2 to 7 weight percent of boria; from 0.5 to 4 weight percent of weight zinc oxide; from 8 to 17 weight percent of calcia; from 0.8 to 7 weight percent of phosphorus pentoxide; and from 2 to 9 weight percent of sodium oxide.

摘要: A method of making a porous metal matrix composite is provided. The method includes mixing a metal powder, a plurality of inorganic particles, and a plurality of discontinuous fibers to form a mixture, wherein the metal powder comprises aluminum, magnesium, an aluminum alloy, or a magnesium alloy. The method further includes sintering the mixture to form the porous metal matrix composite. Typically, the inorganic particles comprise porous particles or ceramic bubbles or glass bubbles, and the inorganic particles and the discontinuous fibers are dispersed in the metal. The metal matrix composite has a lower density than the metal and an acceptable yield strength.

摘要: A metal matrix composite is provided, including a metal, inorganic particles, and discontinuous fibers. The inorganic particles and the discontinuous fibers are dispersed in the metal. The metal includes aluminum, magnesium, or alloys thereof. The inorganic particles have an envelope density that is at least 30% less than a density of the metal. The metal matrix composite has a lower envelope density than the matrix metal while retaining a substantial amount of the mechanical properties of the metal.

Agglomerated glass, unmelted oxides, or natural glassy materials can be used in place of, or in addition to, the glass powder in the feed composition.
