Abstract: An opto-electronic assembly includes a substrate having a plurality of first optical waveguides, a cradle, and a first cover encapsulating at least portions of the first optical waveguides and the cradle. The cradle is bonded to the substrate and defines a pocket therein having an opening. The pocket is configured to receive an optical ferrule through the opening and align the optical ferrule to the first optical waveguides. The first cover includes an aperture exposing the opening of the pocket, such that when the optical ferrule is received in the pocket through the opening and secured therein and a plurality of second optical waveguides are attached to the optical ferrule, the opto-electronic assembly is configured to transfer light between the pluralities of first and second optical waveguides.

Abstract: Provided are aerodynamic articles and related methods that use an aerodynamic body with a microstructured surface thereon. The microstructured surface has a plurality of parallel primary ridges defining major capillary channels, and optionally a plurality of parallel secondary ridges having a height less than that of the primary ridges and extending between and generally parallel to the primary ridges. The optional secondary ridges at least partially define two or more minor capillary channels within each major capillary channel. The aerodynamic surface provides reduced drag and is capable providing a high degree of friction against shoe surfaces under oil and water contaminated conditions.

Abstract: An optical assembly includes a hermaphroditic cassette comprising a hood that includes a narrower section and a wider section. The narrower and wider sections are separated by slots such that the narrower section fits at least partially within a wider section of an identical mating hood of a mating optical assembly and the wider section receives a narrower section of the mating hood. The hood has first and second stop features configured to engage with second and first stop features of the mating hood. The first stop feature comprises a mating end of the narrower section of the hood and the second stop feature comprises a stop surface disposed within the wider section of the hood. Engagement of the stop features of the hood with stop features of the mating hood is configured to stop relative translational movement of the hood and the mating hood along the mating axis during mating.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to adhesive article that include a stretch releasable adhesive and topographical, engineered elements on, within, or partially embedded in a surface of the adhesive. The engineered elements can act as spacers between the adhesive surface and the mounting surface to prevent full contact and wet out of the adhesive, whereby the article can be initially positioned or rotated by sliding the surface of the projections across the wall surface. Under certain conditions, the article may even be removed from the wall and placed at a new location without damage to the wall surface or the article. Once the location is selected, the separation created by the engineered elements can be overcome by applying sufficient pressure; the adhesive can contact and adhere more permanently to the wall. Thus, a stretch releasable adhesive articles of the present disclosure can move freely against the desired mounting surface, develop additional tack and holding power after sufficient pressure is applied.

Abstract: An optical assembly includes an optical ferrule configured to receive light from an optical waveguide and including at least four ferrule alignment features; and a cradle securing the optical ferrule therein and configured to align the optical ferrule to an optical component, the cradle including at least four cradle alignment features configured to make contact or near contact with the at least four ferrule alignment features in a one to one correspondence in at least four corresponding contact regions, such that as a temperature of at least one of the cradle and the optical ferrule changes sufficiently, the corresponding alignment features of the optical ferrule and the cradle slide relative to each other causing the corresponding alignment features of the optical ferrule and the cradle to move to define corresponding traversed regions, such that when extended, the traversed regions of the at least four ferrule alignment features and the at least four cradle alignment features pass within 20 microns of a same first point.

Abstract: The method includes applying a fluorinated fluid to at least one of a surface of an object or an adhesive surface on an adhesive article, positioning the adhesive surface to face the surface of the object such that the fluorinated fluid is between the surface of the object and the adhesive surface; and removing at least some of the fluorinated fluid to permit bonding between the surface of the object and the adhesive surface. The fluorinated fluid generally facilitates the repositioning of the adhesive surface on the surface of the object before removing the fluorinated fluid. A kit comprising an adhesive article and a container including a fluorinated fluid is also described.

Abstract: A molded optical ferrule configured to mate with a mating component includes a top surface, a bottom surface opposite the top surface, and a plurality of side surfaces joining the top and bottom surfaces. The plurality of side surfaces includes a plurality of first side surface portions and a plurality of second side surface portions. The first side surface portions make a first angle greater than zero degrees with a thickness direction of the optical ferrule, the first angle assisting in the removal of the optical ferrule from a mold. The plurality of second side surface portions extends outwardly from the first side surface portions and makes a second angle less than the first angle with the thickness direction. When the optical ferrule mates with the mating component, at least some of the second, but not the first, side surface portions contact corresponding side surface portions of the mating component.
