    Abstract: The lighting device includes a luminaire, duplex circuitry, a lighting control device to control a light output and operation of a light source in a vicinity of the luminaire, and a sound transducer integrated on a surface of an element of the luminaire. The sound transducer responds to vibrations of the luminaire element to detect incoming audio waves and generates outgoing audio waves in the vicinity of the luminaire. The duplex circuitry is coupled to electrical terminals of the sound transducer and configured to generate a first electrical signal of the incoming audio waves, and supply a second electrical signal to cause the sound transducer to generate the outgoing audio waves in the vicinity of the luminaire that are directly proportional to the second electrical signal.

    Abstract: A wall controller controls lighting in an area based upon a configurable user interface. The wall controller includes touch and gesture sensing electrodes mounted to a substrate, and an overlay mounted over the touch and gesture sensing electrodes. The overlay includes firmware to define lighting functions relative to a touch or motion gesture on the overlay. A processor is coupled to receive at least one of sensing signals based upon user touch inputs on the overlay, or sensing signals based upon user motion gestures near the overlay. Programming in a memory configures the processor to analyze the received sensing signals in accordance with the firmware of the overlay, generate a lighting control message based upon the analyzed sensing signals, and transmit the lighting control message to one or more luminaires in an area of the wall controller to control an output of the one or more luminaires.

    Abstract: A lighting wall controller having a capability to reject user inputs at a surface of the wall controller and/or proximity detection in accordance with sensing signals received at locations on and near the wall controller. Programming configures a processor for proximity detection to detect a presence of a conductive object within a predetermined distance to the wall controller. The processor further determines whether user inputs correspond to touches at locations on the wall controller or user gestures near the wall controller to perform one of a plurality of defined lighting functions for a lighting system. When user inputs do not correspond to defined lighting functions, a number of the non-defined inputs is counted to provide an indicator of activity on the surface of the wall controller to activate a locked mode for a duration of the non-defined inputs.

    Abstract: A system includes a luminaire having a light source, a lighting control device to control a light output and operation of the light source in an area of the luminaire, and a sound transducer integrated on a surface of a panel of the luminaire. The sound transducer responds to vibration of the panel to detect incoming audio waves. An audio front end device includes an audio coder responsive to analog signals from the sound transducer, and is coupled to an output of the sound transducer. The lighting control device includes programming that configures a processor to control the audio front end device to receive the analog signals from the sound transducer and provide a digital output signal, process the digital output signals to generate a responsive result that is supplied to the lighting control device in the area of the luminaire.
