Abstract: Improved dental models for use in dental procedures are provided. In one aspect, a unitary dental model of an intraoral cavity of a patient having a dental implant comprises a physical surface representative of gingival tissue of the patient. The model can comprise a channel shaped and oriented to receive an abutment corresponding to a physical abutment to be connected to the dental implant, in which the channel extends to an opening in the physical surface. The channel can comprise a first portion shaped to receive and constrain a corresponding structure of the abutment to a position and orientation and a second portion shaped to receive a fastener to couple the abutment to the unitary dental model. In many embodiments, the first portion comprises a shoulder shaped to receive the corresponding structure of the abutment in order to position the abutment along the channel.

Abstract: A processor receives first intraoral scan data comprising a first depiction of a dental site; generates a virtual three-dimensional (3D) model of the dental site using the first intraoral scan data; and processes at least one of the first intraoral scan data or data from the virtual 3D model to identify an unclear feature. The processor outputs instructions to generate second intraoral scan data of the dental site depicting the portion of the dental site that is unclear; receives the second intraoral scan data; and updates the virtual 3D model of the dental site using the second intraoral scan data, wherein the portion of the dental site that was unclear in the virtual 3D model is replaced with information from the second intraoral scan data.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described that mark and/or correct margin lines and/or other features of dental sites. In one example a three-dimensional model of a dental site is generated from intraoral scan data of the dental site, the three-dimensional model comprising a representation of a preparation tooth. An image of the preparation tooth is received or generated. Data from the image is processed using a trained machine learning model that has been trained to identify margin lines of preparation teeth, wherein the trained machine learning model outputs a probability map comprising, for each pixel in the image, a probability that the pixel depicts a margin line. The three-dimensional model of the dental site is then updated by marking the margin line on the representation of the preparation tooth based on the probability map.

Abstract: A processing device may execute instructions from a computer readable medium to perform operations comprising: making a comparison between first image data of at least a portion of a dental arch and second image data of at least the portion of the dental arch; determining a plurality of differences between a first representation of at least the portion of the dental arch in the first image data and a second representation of at least the portion of the dental arch in the second image data; determining that a first difference of the plurality of differences is attributable to tooth movement; determining that a second difference of the plurality of differences is attributable to tooth wear to one or more teeth on at least a portion of the dental arch; and generating a third representation of at least the portion of the dental arch that is a modified version of the second representation, wherein a visual indication of the tooth wear is provided in the third representation.

Abstract: In a method of generating a virtual 3D model of a dental site, scan data comprising an intraoral image is received during an intraoral scan of a dental site. A representation of a foreign object is identified in the intraoral image based on an analysis of the scan data. The intraoral image is modified by removing the representation of the foreign object from the intraoral image. Additional scan data comprising a plurality of additional intraoral images of the dental site is received during the intraoral scan. A virtual 3D model of the dental site is then generated using the modified intraoral image and the plurality of additional intraoral images.

Abstract: A system includes an intraoral scanner that generates a plurality of intraoral images of a dental site and a computing device. The computing device generates a first surface of a first region of the dental site based on a first intraoral image and generates a second surface of a second region of the dental site based on a second intraoral image. The computing device determines relative positions of the first surface and the second surface, wherein overlap between the first region of the dental site represented in the first intraoral image and the second region of the dental site represented the second intraoral image is insufficient for registration of the second intraoral image to the first intraoral image. The computing device outputs the first surface and the second surface having the relative positions to a display.

Abstract: A processing device receives first intraoral scan data of a first segment of a dental site and second intraoral scan data of a second segment of the dental site that does not stitch to the first intraoral scan data of the first segment of the dental site. The processing device generates a first virtual model of the first segment using the first intraoral scan data, and further generates a second virtual model of the second segment using the second intraoral scan data. The processing device arranges a spatial relationship of the first virtual model and the second virtual model.
