Abstract:
AN ALKYD COMPOSITION PRODUCED BY REACTING A POLYCARBOXYLIC ACID, A POLYHYDRIC ALCOHOL, A TRIS-2-HYDROXYALKYL ISOCYANURATE WHEREIN THE 2-HYDROXYALKYL GROUP CONTAINS BETWEEN TWO AND FOUR CARBON ATOMS, WITH AN OILY MODIFIER SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF VEGETABLE OILS, MARINE OILS, AND FATTY ACIDS DERIVED FROM VEGETABLE OILS, MARINE OILS, AND FATTY ACIDS DERIVED FROM VEGETABLE OILS OR MARINE OILS. THE RESULTING REACTION PRODUCT IS THEN BLENDED WITH AN AMINO RESIN.

POLYETHER POLYOLS, DERIVED FROM TRIS(B-HYDROXYALKYL)ISOCYANURATES AND ALKYLENE OXIDES ARE REACTED WITH ORGANIC POLYISOCYANATES IN THE PRESENCE OF A BLOWING AGENT AND CATALYST TO PRODUCE URETHANE FOAMS OF IMPROVED PROPERTIES.
Abstract:
HOMOPOLYMERS OF TRIS(2-HYDROXYALKYL)ISOCYANURATE ARE POLYESTERIFIED WITH POLYCARBOXYLIC ACID. THE POLYESTERS MAY BE MODIFIED WITH POLYISOCYANATE, METAL DRIER, PHENOL-FORMALKEHYDE OR TRIAZINE-FORMALDEHYDE RESINS, OR POLYHYDRIC ALCOHOLS TO PROVIDE ELECTRICAL INSULATOR MATERIAL FOR WIRE ENAMELS AND VARNISHES, AND CAN ALSO FORM ESTER-IMIDE COPOLYMERS. THE HOMOPOLYMER IS PREPARED BY DISSOLVING THE ISOCYANURATE MONOMER AND ACID CATALYST IN WATER AND THEN AZEOTROPING OFF THE SOLVENT WATER AND UP TO 0.75 MOL OF WATER OF CONDENSATION PER MOL OF ISOCYANURATE MONOMER.

1,2-DIAMINOPROPANE CAN BE PREPARED FROM 1,2-METHYLGLYOXIME IN GOOD YIELD BY HYDROGENATION IN THE PRESENCE OF A HYDROGENATION CATALYST IN ANHYDROUS ALCOHOLIC MEDIUM AT LOW TEMPERATURES UNDER STRONGLY BASIC CONDITIONS.
