To accurately determine the nearest electronic device in establishing a pairing with an electronic device to be a target for remote control. A terminal device includes a received signal strength acquiring unit, a device selection processing unit, and a connecting unit. The received signal strength acquiring unit receives a signal transmitted from a plurality of electronic devices and acquires the electric field strength of the received signal. The device selection processing unit selects an electronic device to be a target for connection from the plurality of electronic devices in accordance with a normalized electric field strength that is a value obtained by normalizing the electric field strength of the received signal using a parameter corresponding to and unique to an electronic device that transmits the received signal. The connecting unit establishes a connection with the electronic device selected at the device selection processing unit.

A communication system includes: a beacon device which is connected to an electronic appliance; and an information terminal. In the communication system, the beacon device retains in advance authentication information that is used when authentication of the electronic appliance under monitoring is performed and transmits a beacon signal including the authentication information, if the condition of the electronic appliance has changed. Moreover, in the communication system, the information terminal, upon receiving a beacon signal including the authentication information, performs authentication using the authentication information and informs its user of a condition of the electronic appliance for which the authentication is done.

Data is safely transmitted or received between an electronic device and a communication terminal. The electronic device having a wireless communication capability transmits data, which is encrypted using a predetermined cryptographic key, to the communication terminal, and decrypts data, which is transmitted from the communication terminal, using the predetermined cryptographic key. The communication terminal capable of wirelessly communicating with the electronic device transfers encrypted data to or from the electronic device, and requests a security management server to encrypt or decrypt data. The security management server encrypts or decrypts data, which is transmitted from the communication terminal, using the predetermined cryptographic key, and transmits the data to the communication terminal.

A receiver receives a beacon signal transmitted from a beacon device. A processing unit maintains an application in an operating state after a detection of entering or exiting a reception area of the beacon signal that satisfies a waiting condition until a predetermined time period has passed. A storage unit stores a comprehensive waiting condition and an individual waiting condition as the waiting conditions of the beacon signal, the comprehensive waiting condition comprehensively indicating the identification information different from one another, and the individual waiting condition individually indicating a single piece of the identification information. The processing unit causes the storage unit to store the identification information of the beacon signal as the individual waiting condition, in a case where the processing unit detects entering the reception area of the beacon signal that satisfies the comprehensive waiting condition.
