Abstract: An approach is described for a user equipment (UE) for enhanced machine-type communication (eMTC) in a connected mode, where the UE includes processor circuitry and radio front end circuitry. The processor circuitry is configured to perform a downlink (DL) quality measurement, and to generate a DL quality report based on the DL quality measurement, wherein a definition of the DL quality report matches a definition of quality report in Msg3. The radio front end circuitry is configured to transmit the DL quality report to a next generation base station (gNB).

Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for use in a wireless network for designing quality report for enhanced Machine Type Communication (EMTC) and Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IOT). For example, some embodiments are directed to a user equipment (UE) including radio front end circuitry and processor circuitry coupled to the radio front end circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to determine a downlink (DL) quality metric based on a DL quality metric type and identify a message 3 (Msg3) signal based on the determined DL quality metric. The processor circuitry can further be configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, the identified Msg3 signal to a base station.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments include a UE that determines that access stratum (AS) security has not been activated and mobility is handled by a 5G core network. The UE then encodes a radio resource control (RRC) connection re-establishment request for transmission based on the determination. The RRC connection re-establishment request may include an indicator of a UE identity or a single bit value to indicate a reestablishment cause. The UE may also determine a truncated ng-5G-S-TSMI of the UE, wherein the RRC connection re-establishment request includes the truncated ng-5G-S-TSMI.

The processor circuitry can be configured to receive, using the radio front end circuitry and from a Non-Access Stratum layer (NAS) of a cell, an indication to use a 5G Core Network (5GCN) for the cell. The processor circuitry can be further configured to transmit, using the radio front end, a Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection request in response to the indication to use the 5GCN.

Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for the reduction of handover interruptions. Some embodiments include a user equipment (UE) that supports simultaneous connectivity with a source 5G Node B (gNB) and a target gNB during a handover. Some embodiments include the UE receiving source path data packets from the source gNB and target path data packets from a target gNB. The UE performs a first reorder of the one or more source path data packets and the one or more target path data packets by sequence number (SN), and the UE performs header decompression on the reordered source path data packets, separately from the reordered target path data packets. After the header decompressions the UE performs a second reorder of the source path data packets and the target path data packets together by SN, and discards any duplicate data packets based on SNs.

Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include apparatuses and methods for facilitating a transmission, retransmission, and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process using preconfigured uplink resources (PUR) in IDLE mode. In some embodiments, user equipment (UE) may establish a first PUR and a second PUR to use in IDLE mode. The UE may transmit uplink data using the first PUR using a HARQ process. The UE may start a PUR retransmission timer and monitor a control channel for an acknowledgement message. The UE may identify an expiration of the PUR retransmission timer prior to receiving the acknowledgement message, and in response, may retransmit the uplink data using the second PUR.
