Abstract: An electronic device may receive or provide power using bidirectional wired and wireless power converters. A bypass path may be included to bypass the battery charger and to allow direct power transfers from a connector of the electronic device to the wireless power converter or from the wireless power converter to the connector of the electronic device. Abstract: A voltage of a first pin that is one of several pins of an external connector of a system is measured, while the first pin is un-driven except for being pulled to ground through a first resistance, and a second pin of the external connector is being used as a power supply rail of the system. The measured voltage is compared to a short circuit threshold and in response to that threshold being exceeded, the power supply voltage on the second pin is reduced. In such an embodiment, no test stimulus needs to be applied to any of the pins of the external connector. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: A switching power converter circuit may include output voltage overshoot mitigation circuitry that can modify operation of the converter responsive to an overvoltage condition by switching from a pulse width modulation (PWM) mode to a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode. A clamp may be provided to clamp a control voltage or a compensating capacitor voltage of the main output voltage control loop (e.g., a PWM control loop) to a control voltage of the PFM loop. An output pull down circuit may be provided to temporarily apply a load to the converter output.

Abstract: A battery powered electronic device can include a wireless power system configured to receive power from a wireless power transmitter, a converter coupled to the wireless power system that converts a voltage from the wireless power system to a battery charging voltage, a battery comprising at least two cells, a power management unit that delivers power from one or more of the at least two cells to one or more subsystems of the electronic device, and a plurality of switching devices connecting the at least two cells, the converter, and the power management unit. The plurality of switching devices can be arranged so that a first switching configuration connects the cells in series for charging from the converter and a second switching configuration connects the cells in parallel for delivering power to the power management unit.

Abstract: A wireless power transmitting device includes a surface adapted to support a container containing a wireless power receiving device and further includes a wireless power transfer coil positioned to couple with a wireless power receiving coil of the wireless power receiving device when the container is placed on the surface. The wireless power transmitting device detects a presence of the wireless power receiving device when the container containing the wireless power receiving device is placed on the surface and determines whether the wireless power receiving device permits wireless power transfer while it is inside the container. Using the wireless power transfer coil, the wireless power transmitting device wirelessly transmits power to the wireless power receiving device through the container to charge a battery of the wireless power receiving device, in accordance with determining the wireless power receiving device permits wireless power transfer while it is inside the container.
