摘要:
A method (200) and apparatus (100) control feed commitments based on feedable capacity. The apparatus may include a source (122) of feedable media sheets and a feeder module (120) coupled to the source of feedable media sheets, the feeder module configured to control the source of feedable media sheets. The apparatus may include a marking engine (132) coupled to the source of feedable media sheets, the marking engine configured to mark images on media sheets fed by the source of feedable media sheets. The apparatus may include a marker module (130) coupled to the marking engine, the marker module configured to control the marking engine. The apparatus may include a scheduler module (110) coupled to the feeder module and the marker module, the scheduler module configured to schedule feed commitments for the feeder module and mark commitments for the marker module. The feeder module may be configured to determine whether there will be a future low media sheet count based on comparing a predetermined number with an outstanding sheet feed commitment amount and may be configured to assert a break in feed commitments if there will be a future low media sheet count.

Methods and devices determine the media properties of a sheet of media exiting a printing device. The methods and devices apply the media properties to a predetermined velocity equation to calculate a corresponding sheet exit velocity for the sheet of media that will optimize stack quality in a particular output tray. Then, the methods and devices change process controls sheet movement elements within a media path of the printing device to cause the sheet of media to exit the printing device at the sheet exit velocity.

A method maintains an environment within an interior of a sheet feeder during dead-cycling of an image forming device to which the sheet feeder is operatively connected. The method jets pulses of air into the interior of the sheet feeder that houses two or more pieces of media therein while the image forming device is dead-cycling. By the method, the attractive forces between two pieces of adjacent media. In a stack are reduced or minimized, and feeding of multiple sheets can be reduced or eliminated.

A printing system includes a media transport pathway, a marking system disposed along the media transport pathway and a sheet media sensor capable of identifying associated sheets of media. An operating module is capable of switching the printing system between a productive condition and a non-productive condition. An advancement module is capable of advancing associated sheets of media along the media transport pathway while the printing system is in the non-productive condition. A method is also included.

Productivity in electronic printer incorporating finishing activities and operating in a job streaming mode are enhanced by utilizing software to calculate and predict the minimum delay corresponding to minimum skip pitches) in successive jobs requiring finishing activities such as binding and stapling. Printing and collating of sets of original scanned documents are controlled so that collated sets are successively presented by the printer to the finisher nearly coincident with conclusion of the finishing activity being accomplished for a current job. Additional software innovations allow job scheduling for jobs involving complex pitch time delays created by scanning simplex and duplex documents returned in random order. For this case optimum delay time is the cumulative finishing hardware delays as well as imaging/paper path delays. Still another feature is a predictive algorithym which is used to increase reliability of printer components by cycling down the printer between jobs in situations where the finishing activity for a current job requires an extraordinarily long time to complete compared with the cycle down/cycle up time of the printer.

Gaps which naturally exist in the output of printed copy sheets from a duplex paper path due to duplex printing are selectively combined with interset interval skipped pitches so as to provide an appropriate interset interval between each set of printed copy sheets output from a printer, while minimizing the number of skipped pitches which actually need to be scheduled.
