Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for recognizing a user are disclosed. A speech-controlled device captures a spoken utterance, and sends audio data corresponding thereto to a server. The server determines content sources storing or having access to content responsive to the spoken utterance. The server also determines multiple users associated with a profile of the speech-controlled device. Using the audio data, the server may determine user recognition data with respect to each user indicated in the speech-controlled device's profile. The server may also receive user recognition confidence threshold data from each of the content sources. The server may determine user recognition data associated that satisfies (i.e., meets or exceeds) a most stringent (i.e., highest) of the user recognition confidence threshold data. Thereafter, the server may send data indicating a user associated with the user recognition data to all of the content sources.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for verifying a user are disclosed. A speech-controlled device captures a spoken command, and sends audio data corresponding thereto to a server. The server performs ASR on the audio data to determine ASR confidence data. The server, in parallel, performs user verification on the audio data to determine user verification confidence data. The server may modify the user verification confidence data using the ASR confidence data. In addition or alternatively, the server may modify the user verification confidence data using at least one of a location of the speech-controlled device within a building, a type of the speech-controlled device, or a geographic location of the speech-controlled device.

Abstract: A speech system may be configured to operate in conjunction with a stationary base device and a handheld remote device to receive voice commands from a user. A user may direct speech either to the base device or to the handheld device. In order to direct speech to the base device, the user first speaks a keyword. In order to direct speech to the handheld device, the user presses a talk control on the handheld device. A dialog may be conducted with the user in multiple turns, where each turn comprises user speech and a speech response by the speech system. The user speech in any given dialog turn may be provided from the base device and/or the handheld device.
