    摘要: Anti-armor projectiles comprising a main projectile having a single warhe and an additional autonomous precursor warhead which is stowed with the main projectile and attached to the main projectile just before firing, thereby providing a tandem warhead capability and improved lethality for the main projectile. The attachable precursor warhead is packaged with the main projectile so that the length and diameter of the main projectile is not increased while it is stored and until the autonomous precursor warhead is attached just prior to firing. The autonomous warhead may be a chemical energy (CE) warhead or a kinetic energy (KE) warhead so that when attached to existing CE warhead or KE warhead projectiles, tandem CE-CE, tandem CE-KE, tandem KE-KE, or tandem KE-CE warhead projectiles are created. The autonomous, attachable warhead is completely self-contained and prior to firing is affixed to and stowed adjacent the main projectile without exceeding the length and diameter constraints of the main projectile. Thus, tandem warhead capability with its improved lethality is produced for main projectiles having a single warhead with no effect on projectile storage bustle or tank turret designs.

Additional spots of abraisive material are located on the paper strip to allow the use of matches while the match book is still attached to the cigarette pack through the strip.

    摘要: A kinetic energy projectile intended to be launched toward a selected tar has a projectile body and a plurality of fins attached to the projectile body to provide stablity thereto in flight. Means are provided for causing the fins to be ejected from the projectile body upon impact with the target and for retaining the fins on the body in flight. The latter includes a fin support structure fastened to the body and including a locking mechanism for releasably securing the fins thereto, the fins including fasteners arranged and adapted to cooperate with the locking mechanism in releasably securing the fins to the fin support structure. In the preferred embodiment, the locking mechanism includes a plurality of channels each having a closed end, and the fasteners are a plurality of pins fastened to the fins for insertion into the channels up to said closed ends thereof. Premature ejection of the fins from the projectile body is prevented, for example, by the application of a special putty material to partially fill the channels.

    摘要: This invention enables the faster processing and sorting of mail pieces and packages while also detecting pieces with insufficient postage. A postal stamp is intoduced which has provisions for entering, by the stamp user, both the destination and origination identifier codes which are detectable by a scanning device. In addition, distinct markings are printed for alerting a scanning device to the location and orientation of the entered identifier codes. Furthermore, special marking code printed thereon is provided to identify the monetary value of the stamp. Two other different stamp structures are also introduced to help facilitate the stated objectives. These two other structures involve stamps of two layers with peel-off pieces. A mail sorting process and apparatus is provided which utilizes the capabilities of the introduced stamp. Finally, a postal metering device is improved and introduced as a compatible part of this invention.

    摘要: A kinetic energy projectile intended to be launched toward a selected tar has a projectile body and a plurality of main fins attached to the projectile body to provide stability thereto in flight. A spoiler fin is attached to the projectile body ahead of each associated main fin for reducing the temperature of the main fins during flight of the projectile, and thereby, the burning of the fins in flight. The spoiler fin is adapted and configured to provide the temperature reduction by changing the aerodynamic flow over the edges and surfaces of the associated main fin, and also may be composed of material having a lower coefficient of heat conduction than that of the main fin. A gap of predetermined width is provided between the trailing edge of the spoiler fin and the leading edge of the associated main fin, this width being selected to create recirculating vortices behind the trailing edge of the spoiler fin sufficient to cool the leading edge of the associated main fin. In one embodiment, the spoiler fun is completely separated from the associated main fin by the gap. In another embodiment, the spoiler fin and the associated main fin are formed from a single sheet of material, and are connected by a portion of the common material beneath the gap. In a third embodiment, plurality of gaps may be employed.

In the preferred embodiment, each main fin includes a supplementary fin movably secured thereto for increasing the overall surface area to further enhance the stability of the projectile after launch. A pin and channel arrangement is used for slidably retaining the supplemental fin and the main fins together for deployment under forces on the projectile during launch and flight thereof. The channel arrangement further includes a portion which angles suddenly to lock the supplementary fin in the deployed position. The preferred embodiment also includes putty disposed within the channel for preventing deployment of the supplementary fin during normal handling of the projectile. The putty is shattered upon initial impact with the pin during launching of the projectile.

    摘要: A postal decal (stamp) which may be purchased regularly as a stamp is developed such that it carries a separable part of which is available for entering a destination identifier code (e.g. zip code) with the proper tool which can be a pen or pencil. These identifiers are written such that they are machine readable. Thus the process of sorting the mail and parcels to their destination can be greatly enhanced together with less human intervention for sorting. These stamps may be obtained at the usual post offices. If special pens or pencils are needed, they can be provided also at those post offices or at any other outlet. A second type of stamp is developed where the part designated for entering the destination identifier is thinly coated partially or totally with a magnetic or illuminating or coloring material which can be detected by the appropriate `reading` or scanning machine which reacts sensitively to this coating material. This coating may be in a manner so as to provide the orientation of the destination identifier with respect to a pre-prescribed direction. This detection will initiate the reading process of the code identifier. This stamp is introduced to give flexibility for the scanning machines in locating the piece carrying the destination identifier especially when it is placed on any location on the surface of the mailed item.
