    摘要: A fire-extinguishant mechanism comprising a thick-walled bottle containing pressurized fire extinguishant liquid. Liquid outflow from the bottle is through a poppet valve located at the lower end of the bottle; the valve discharges pressurized extinguishant in one or more preselected directions, depending on the location or application of the bottle system; valve actuation is by means of an explosive squib and/or explosive cartridge (as backup). The bottle is initially filled and pressurized through a multi-purpose fitting at the bottle upper end; a filler tube extends from the fitting downwardly into the bottle to introduce the pressurizing agent below the liquid extinguishant surface. The fitting is specially constructed to mount a charging valve, a pressure gage, rupture disc, and liquid deflection mechanism.

The deflector acts as an obstruction to reduce liquid jet issuing from the nozzle. The system is designed for liquid pressure of 750 p.s.i. and nozzle openings of about 11/4 inch diameter. The bullet-shaped deflector may have a diameter of about 5/16 inch and an axial length of about 1 inch.

This accessory control device includes at least one housing for finger-operable controls, each housing adaptable for removable mounting upon a visual aid sighting instrument by means of quick attachable-detachable fasteners, and each housing further includes a control lever and an electrical conductor cable connectable with various of commercially available radio wave transmitter units having one or more sets of selector control devices, to thereby enhance movement observation and continuing radio-controlled operation of the device with which it is associated.

    摘要: A track-laying, remotely controlled, miniature target vehicle is shown, bearing an expendable shell which resembles a military tank. Four grooved pulleys on each side carry two V-belts as tracks, one wheel being electric motor-driven. The two reversible electric motors, one for each side, run and are controlled independently of each other by means of speed control units receiving signals from an on-board radio receiver. A transmitter remote from the simulated battlefield is under the control of a tank commander who puts the tank through realistic maneuvers. More remote visual control is provided by an auxiliary control device electrically connected to the transmitter and which is cooperable with an optical instrument, being attached for example to the two telescopes of optical binoculars by quick-releasable straps.

    摘要: There is disclosed a fire suppression mechanism for a military tracked vehicle. The mechanism includes a number of relatively small cylindrical pressure vessels, each having a floating piston that separates the respective cylinder into 2 chambers. Vaporizable liquid fire suppressant material (such as C Br F.sub.3) occupies one chamber; an inert pressurized gas such as nitrogen occupies the other chamber. An electrically-controlled valve at one end of each cylinder can be remotely triggered open to enable fire suppressant vapor to be discharged from the cylinder under the driving force provided by the pressure of the inert gas; the floating piston shifts along the cylinder as the vapor is discharged from the cylinder toward the developing fireball within the vehicle. Each cylinder is oriented in a horizontal prone position at a central point in the vehicle.

    摘要: In a fuel transport vehicle, the improvement comprising a fire suppressant mechanism located between the cab area of the vehicle and the vehicle fuel storage tank. Should the vehicle jackknife or otherwise accidently capsize onto its side an automatic valve device causes the fire-suppressant mechanism to discharge a fire suppressant chemical onto the ground or road surface between the driver-occupied cab and the fuel cargo; thereby minimizing the possibility that spilled fuel will ignite and produce a flame in the area immediately adjacent the cab. The added margin of safety against burn injury will provide the driver with a stepping-stone path of escape from the fire zone. A manual over-ride control for the automatic valve will enable the valve to be operated in the event of a fire originating from careless handling of fuel or a malfunction of the automatic valve control.

    摘要: Military vehicles equipped with upright fuel tanks are subject to near-exsion type fires when enemy projectiles pass through the tank. It is herein proposed to provide a source of pressurized fire suppressant near the fuel tank. Discharge of suppressant toward the emergent fireball is controlled by a squib valve that is triggered to the open condition by a pressure-responsive sensor mounted on the tank; the sensor responds to the shock wave generated by passage of the enemy projectile through the tank. Suppressant is directed toward the fireball by a bladder stretched across the inboard wall of the tank. Such a bladder advantageously has no metallic components that could fragment into dangerous lethal particles.
