Abstract: This disclosure relates to a relay user equipment device (UE) assisting one or more remote UEs in performing a radio access network notification area (RNA) update procedure in a cellular communication system. The relay UE establishes a first relay connection with a first remote device. The first relay connection relays communications between the first remote device and a network. The relay UE transmits a first message to the network to initiate the RNA update procedure for the first remote device, receives an acknowledgment message from the network including updated connection information for the first remote device, and transmits the updated connection information to the first remote device.

Abstract: Devices and associated methods for operating a dual-subscriber identity module (SIM) dual-standby (DSDS) user equipment device (UE) configured with a first SIM and a second SIM. The UE performs communications with a first cellular network using the first SIM and a first radio resource control (RRC) connection, and receives a request to perform a higher priority communication using the second SIM. In response to the request to perform the higher priority communication, the UE transmits a request to the first network to suspend the first RRC connection. After transmission of the request to suspend the first RRC connection, the UE receives a message from the first network to place the first RRC connection in an inactive state, and initiates a timer, wherein the timer is used to determine whether the first RRC connection remains in the inactive state or transitions to an idle state.

Abstract: Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for performing unicast sidelink access stratum level connection maintenance. A first wireless device and a second wireless device may establish a unicast sidelink wireless connection. One or both of the first wireless device and the second wireless device may perform access stratum level connection maintenance on the unicast sidelink wireless connection. This may include performing any or all of radio link monitoring, radio resource management, or physical layer based link quality detection. The access stratum and the non-access stratum of each device may also communicate with each other regarding either or both of link quality or link status of the unicast sidelink wireless connection.
